I am off to the Gala Theatre in Durham on Sunday night I know how to
get there but have no idea of the city centre, does anyone know the best place to park and go for for a pre performance pint or 2

Cheers

Best places to park are either Prince Bishops car park, or down by the river, beside the new swimming baths. Fensy. It's impossible to park anywhere in Durham, now, apart from official car parks (unless like me you want to have a collection of parking tickets.)

Not sure about pre-performance pints....the Market Tavern in the market Place is a traditional old pub.

Prince bishops is probably your best bet. Its just over the bridge from the Gala.

The gala is surrounded by restaurants .... nandos/chiquitos etc

Could always go for a meal and have pints there?

The Shakespeare is a great pub. It hasn't been tarted up like many pubs. Three or four real ales on hand pump. Head towards the Cathedral from the marketplace with Bimbi's fish shop(sit in or take out) on your right and its about another 50 yards on the right. There's a Spanish restaurant near there too.

Mr Fens, you can actually park under the gala in the Walkergate car park http://www.parkingindurham.com/home.aspx, go up the stairs and into the Gala Millennium place complex, where you have Nandos, Slug and Lettuce, Lloyds/Wetherspoons, ASK etc.

But if you want some Oldie Durham, stick the car in Prince Bishops and call into the Swan and Three Cygnets on Elvet Bridge, or the Market Tavern in the market place. Top notch scran at The Bridge which is just over the road from the entrance to the train station or forget the Gala and call into the Elm Tree's beer festival, five guest ales!

You'd think I lived in Durham or summit!

It's these new shifts he is on at work, he hardly seems to be there which means he can get out nearly all the time
