Anyone else reckon its shocking that the main sports picture on the back of the HARTLEPOOL paper is of Newcastle players.

There are probably more plastic mags, and as many proper fans read the mail on a daily basis as there are Poolies, far too many people I speak to in this town couldn't give a shite about the club and most know sod all about it unless we are on a good run, or bad one.

The pools reporter is a southerner whose a mackem, the paper is printed in sunderland, barely anyone even works in the hartlepool office anymore.

When I think that I used to have it delivered and looked forward to reading it, aye and the Footy mail.

Funnily enough I called into Tesco's for petrol last Saturday and bought a copy............won't be tempted again.

well I do my bit - haven't bought the thing regularly for over 5 years!!!! Maybe bought it the odd time (3 or 4 at most) in that 5 year period and only because there was something of personal interest in - such as a photograph of someone I know

Well I get it delivered every weekday and I read it every weekday, even if it doesn't take an age to do so.

People who buy it once in a blue moon slagging it off and comparing it's quality to that of The Times or similar is quite frankly stupid. It's a local paper and it's no better but certainly no worse than similar local papers all over the country. It's had to change and adapt over the last few years (e.g. printing earlier and from a centralised location for economic and logistical reasons) as newspapers in general, never mind local evening papers, are no longer the primary source of information that they once were so comparing it to it's past is quite frankly ludicrous.

But why let simple facts like above get in the way of a nostalgia rush about how nothing's as good as it was in the olden days.

The one thing that does nark me very much however is their regular use of terms such as "nicked" and "swiped" which serves no other purpose but to portray the authors as what Mr Fireball would describe as "thicketts".

I'll tell you something else too, The Hartlepool Mail, and in particular the support garnered there and the effort put in by Frank Reid, was one of the primary causes of the Poolie Pride CD project being the success that it was and I'm sure that other similar local projects have and continue to benefit from the support of the local paper. It'll be a sad day if it goes out of existence.

Rippers point about Poolie Pride is dead right, you couldn't have bought that publicity.

It has it's moments..................problem is those moments are few and far between...............allegedly.
Not as good as it used to be though, and there isn't even a Footy Mail ( the green sports newspaper that used to come out on a Sat night for all you young uns who have never seen it ) these days.

I mean let's face it..........summers were longer and sunnier. Ice creams were bigger and cheaper. Mums stayed at home and were always there for you. The woman's apple pie from next door was to die for ( her husband did, though I don't think the pie was to blame).
The Burn Valley was a far better day out than Alton Towers.
