Just a few discussion points points

#1 How the fook did we get about before universal air travel
#2 Isn't it amazing now that is dragging on the airlines are bleating that we don't need to do it anyway. Isn't it strange how they start talking about "risk assessment" when its costing money.
(Incidentally How would we feel if they got their way and then a jet fell out of the sky over some city due to an unforeseen "risk" on their assessment)
#3 Are we reaping what we sowed when we pushed our money into air travel rather than other means?

I live about 5 miles from East Midlands Airport and yesterday morning my car was covered in a thick dust, might be unrelated but worrying nevertheless.

Probably just the soot blowers at Ratcliffe - complain to EOn and you might get a free car wash

Seeing as he's from Iceland, I thought there might have been a bit of supposedly friendly banter about it.

The Met Office have observed that the eruption's now strengthened and a new ash cloud has been spotted moving in a south-easterly direction...towards the United Kingdom.

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/8631144.stm

And the authorities had intended to re-open some airports over here as well.

This is getting worse before it gets better.

Well it might look attractive from Hartlepool but we are stuck in New York! They have said Thursday night is a possibility but as this thing churns out more ash that is becoming less and less likely I think. Surprisingly ( I dont think ) the insurance doesn't cover natural disasters so its all down to us to find a hotel etc. and fend for ourselves until American Airlines and the aviation authority say its safe to fly. Oh bugger!! banghead

Yes its strange that all of sudden with 26 flights flying around over London they found this "new" evidence that it is safe to fly in these clouds (or to put it another way they caved into big business). BA the "Bully of the Air" . They'll be a cold day in Hell before I chose to fly with those bastads..

Finally ..fingers Crossed.. I hope Mother Nature still doesn't have the last say in this..

There's nothing more powerful on this planet than Mother Nature.
There is always the possibility that she will have the last say.
However if a plane does go down you can bet your bottom dollar that the people who are "advising" the civil aviation authorities will move hell and high water to prove it had nothing to do with the volcano.
That's the way I'm afraid.

What is even worse is that some politicians are now calling for an enquiry into the matter. These same politicians are spouting about waste and the need to stop frittering money away and yet want to spend millions of taxpayers money on an enquiry. You couldn't make it up.
Anyone would think there was an election looming.
