So much is always expected of England but they always fall short.

There's no doubting the talent is there in the squad but they don't seem to play well as a team. Probably because they get a pittance for playing for England and a fortune for their club. The honour of playing for your country doesn't seem to apply anymore.

We will get no further that the quarter finals again.

Rooney, erm... confised sctatchinghead

Their coach is a class act and will probably make the most of what he has at his disposal, but I don't see a squad brimming with exceptional talent.

Concurring with Mr Mad.

Most of the England squad are average at best, some are poor.

Sky builds them all up as world beaters because they play in the Premiershit which is Sky's product that they're trying to sell.

The keepers are iffy, the defence is dodgy, the midfield is overrated and all we've got up front is Rooney.

So our chances of winning the World Cup? I'd love it but I'd be proper surprised!

Agree that 6/1 is a bit short like and should be more 12/1, however didnt gerrard and john terry get in the world team of the year last year, voted by the players and FIFA.

think it was for clubs:

The team includes

Iker Casillas (Spain);
Daniel Alves (Brazil), Nemanja Vidic (Serbia), John Terry (England) and Patrice Evra (France) Steven Gerrard (England), Xavi (Spain) and Andrés Iniesta (Spain)
Lionel Messi (Argentina), Cristiano Ronaldo (Portugal) and Fernando Torres (Spain)

We get this hype and expectation before every World Cup and european thingy.
We will probably get our usual quarterfinalitis and then home.

6-1 is a bit niggardly but the bookies know that there enough mugs out there to take it.

Laying instead of backing is a tempting option, as Chip says.

England have more chance of winning the world cup than they have of me watching any of their games.

Of what I saw of the Argentian team in the qualifiers I hope we meet them at some point as they were shyte and qualified by the skin of their teeth.

I think England have a good chance of winning the world cup.

The twenty20 world cup, which is on at the end of this month

The low odds will mainly be offered because of the superb draw we've had. Looking at it, we've got a fantastic chance of getting to the final 4 and providing we win the group then I think we will.

Rooney is obviously the key but we have excellent players throughout the side and a manager that will get them working together and to the best of their ability. I don't think we'll win it but we won't do half as badly as people are suggesting on this thread.

I hope we win it and I'll be watching every game. I'm strange like that. confised

Always enjoy the World Cup, good excuse to go out on the beer if nothing else.

Gerrard has very long legs and a normal sized body

If either England or Argentina finish top and/or second in their groups then we meet in the second round, otherwise the only time we could meet is in the final, agree tho that Argentina are shit.

Are you still banging on about for hells sake...

it was my opinion only to which I think Argentina will have a poor world cup.

Compared to what they used to be, they arent the force they once used to be, albeit they still have some good players but wether the manager knows how to utilise them I very much doubt it.

Haven't I already said what I would do if England win the World Cup....something along the lines of a crab paste samndwich wiped on Skye's back???? sctatchinghead

I'm sure someone bookmarked it!!!!

England will be very lacklustre....even in the Group games....and have nochance at all of reaching the quarters!!!!

I'l have a look but there's about six players in the squad that can actually do owt. If 'square pass Rio' is in there, along with 'I can shoot hard and hit the back of the stand Lampard,' I'll probably watch the table tennis in the local sports centre.

Disagree, this is our best chance as we have a decent manager who knows what he is doing, although wether we win it or not is another matter.

mmm, this from the man who stated last week that pools were already relegated, and that he couldnt see them winning another game all season.

in the last 12 months or so they have beaten france in france, beaten russia in russia and beaten germany in germany. they also lost narrowly to a spanish national team in spain, that would in all probability have beaten any other side in the world that night.

they may not be the best side in the world, but no way are they shit.

Concurring.

Would Capello have kept darlo up this season with their squad???? sctatchinghead
