Also did you spot the telephone area codes on the bedsits at Seaton Carew.....0191, obviously the researchers have done their homework.

Totally agree, I've wasted an hour of my life watching it.Was watching Arsenal but at 2-0 down thought game over.

I picked up on pier and STD codes on estate agents boards.

Typical BBC, no background work, or so it appears, knocked together in about the length of the programme.

Absolute S***e

Sure POK will start a thread on how good it was.

What do I pay my licence for ??????

I may be wrong here but wasn't Anne Darwin a Durham lass hence the accent
albeit far too over the top false Geordie accent!
Nice pier though! rolfl

I've just managed to see it.

The film-like opening scene on the beach promised an excellent drama, but I thought the acting at the start was a bit wooden at times, maybe down to using inexperienced actors.

I was also disappointed that Anne Darwin was given a Newcastle accent to try to tie Hartlepool to the North East generally, but as we are all aware, a Geordie accent for a person from Hartlepool is simply WRONG realistically, as well as having the pier.

The most accurate accent was from the police officer who visited their home.

And Anne's accent broke hysterically twice whenever she reacted painfully.

As for the scene on the pier, that was clearly for dramatic purposes because there is no way it could have been there for realism.

I couldn't believe the amount of scenes there were with them having it off, especially the webcam scene!!

The most assured performance came from Bernard Hill.

Wasn't that Flick who appeared again as the photographer in Panama? Because it certainly looked like it.

I laughed at the "Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe" metaphor that was used when John Darwin knocked the wall through in their home.

All in all, a good smart, entertaining attempt, spoilt by accents and the pier - 7/10.

Yet, Anne Darwin had a strong Geordie accent.

It's things like that that let down good research....things like calling Seaton Carew "Hartlepool Beach".

It would have easily got an 8 or 9 from me, but Anne Darwin's accent let me down a little bit.

I probably have, yeah.

That's the sort of the phrase that you use when you've lived in the South all your life.

Watched it last night, kept expecting the bint playing Ann Darwin to say, "dubbelyoo-dubbelyoo-dubbelyoo-dot-poor battered bairns and their fat mams-dot-com", or something similar.

Perhaps the BBC used a wide-angled lens, & then put the film in the wrong way around, so really the pier was from Saltburn or Redcar.

That same camera really magnified the grains of sand on the beach. The grains were so big, it looked more like the shingle beaches you get darn sarf
