I thought no country for old men was a bag of wank.

All the other cohen brother films are brilliant espically Fargo

Strange that you didn't rate Burn After Reading. I loved it. I thought Frances McDormand, Brad Pitt and John Malkovich are excellent in it.
Just used a few Morrisons petrol vouchers to buy A Serious Man.
A bottle of Rioja and that's Sunday night sorted.

Miller's Crossing would be in there above O' Brother and No Country for Old Men for me

I wish there was even just one cinema in the area that concentrated on showing old classics. There's the Tyneside and the Gala but they're both a bit eccentric in their choices, and tend not to show the things you'd really like to see.

Watching films on TV at home is much better than nothing, but also that misses a lot, imo.....after all the things are written for cinema.

Perhaps you were hungover when you watched Burn After Reading too. I'd give it another go if it seemed fragmented the first time. You can get it for a fiver these days.
You're right Frances McDormand is never less than excellent but I also enjoyed Brad Pitt's goofy turn.
There's also a great live DVD of of the bluegrass music on O Brother Where Art Thou called Down From The Mountain.
Recorded by DA Pennebaker and MC'd by the late great John Hartford it's worth a tenner of anyone's money.

thanks lads, i think the road, child of god and the border trilogy will be my next reading.

Are these books anything like ian banks novels like the crow road and the wasp factory, these are very dark and assume cormac mccarthy writing is the same?

So you did'nt like it then.I found the first viewing was'nt exceptional, as you miss a lot of the dialogue due to the texan drawl. After a couple of more views since it's grown on me. Then again I have'nt possessed a 'bag of wank' so it's difficult for me to make a comparison.
