thats what The Royal College of Physicians wants, as well as anywhere children congrigate. I agree that smoking should be banned in cars where children are present but this is going beyond a joke:

"A number of medical bodies have supported a ban on smoking in cars transporting children, but the RCP goes a significant step further, urging a blanket ban on anyone lighting up in a vehicle - regardless of whether children or indeed any other passengers are inside."

I smoke and dont think anyone should have to breath in my second hand smoke, but if I want to smoke in my car (i dont by the way as its new) isnt that my choice, whats next no smoking in your own house or your own garden if your kids mates are playing around?

What type of music will they play?

If it's some good indie rock stuff maybe it'll be a good thing.

good point made on the bbc:

"Police prevent citizen from carrying out perfectly legal activity in the privacy of their own property" has too much of an Orwellian ring to me.

If smoking is so dangerous then make it illegal. But they wont do that as they get to much tax"

Has the irony of travelling in a car powered by petrol and holding a lighted object never got you thinking.
I saw a bloke in Tesco's car park with two bairns under three, waving his wife off, while he lit up, windows closed.
If it was two dogs you'd probably have someone prosecuting you.

I am surprised that they haven't tried to bring this in earlier, not for the passive smoking side to it but because when people take a drag they only have one hand on the steering wheel, I am fairly sure that I have read about peple being fined for eating at the wheel so how is that different from smoking at the wheel

Not to mention the danger of dropping hot ash on to their laps, or the disregard to other motorists when they throw their still lit cigarette buts out of the window.

My first act as Prime Minister would be to ban all smoking, along with putting down all dog owners who allow their dogs to sh*t everywhere, and don't clear up after them. rage

Yeah, the busies will hide in your car boot, and as soon as you turn on the cassette or cd they'll shout "pull over your knicked my son".

I often change my socks and underwear while motorway driving, they'll want to stop that next........and as for washing my hair!

I don't smoke, don't like it and would rather the people I care for quit but this is ridiculous. I see Toyota are installing black boxes in their new cars now to tell them of faults before they become problems. How long before the goverment cottons on and it relays exact speeds and driving habits back to them for fines and points.

They don't realise they're pissing off the people who pay the most tax, and then still have the cheek to increase it! How about cutting unemployment benefit and fooking off with tax rises and laws designed to catch people out and generate money rather than making things safer for people.

I'm fooking sick of this country, If I could afford it I'd be out of here pronto but I can't because I pay so much tax on everything!

what that article says to me is not dont smoke while driving but dont leak peroxide into your car and light up, the same way you wouldnt light your cigarette with your head in a gas oven or like grave said at a petrol station.

You might, if you'd run out of matches.

many of the reasons why Poolie Kev upped sticks, don't blame him at all
When families of loafers get more money in housing benefits/unemployment benefits ANYWHERE in this country than a family who are working, then you know the place has gone to ratshit

To answer Fensy point about driving with one hand on the wheel, i think there has to be evidence of you driving without due care and attention, while eating an apple or smoking. I cant see how doing these two things carefully is any different to changing the radio, putting the window down or my first point changing gear,

You cant have both your hands on the wheel at all time, I men what happens if you need to scratch your balls?
