The stupid bint with the dodgy hair on Sports Relief " More than a quarter of the worlds children have to work for a living.Thats more than one in six!" With maths like that, no wonder the the BBC is in some much bother!

Err a quarter = one in four..... which works out more than one in six! :roll:

100 children 1 in 4 working means 25 children working

100 children 1in 6 working means 16 children working

So 1 in 6 is less than a quarter.

So 1 in 6 is less than a quarter.

Stick to putting out fires Bob. Of course 'a quarter of' is more than one in six.

a quarter = one in four = 25%
one in six = 16.66%

So shes right, one is four is indeed more than one in six.

The statement is mathematically flawed though, as more than a quarter of the worlds children having to work for a living is 25% and over or 25%>100%, but the stating of thats more than one in six equates to 16.66% and above or 16.66%>100%, so it's contradictory, as it is more than 1 in 6, it's 1 and a half in 6, but the 16.66% to 25% category would not apply to the original statement.

It seems odd that we seem to have several telethons a year to help people in Africa which is ok but maybe we should start sorting out the problems closer to home first.
