Theres a fair proportion but I think the McAleeses and Stone's of this world just get more publicity.

Take the well publicised cock up that was Bravo Two Zero for example;

Steve Mitchell - Cockney
Vince Phillips - Wurzel. (knew him when he was in Commando Log Regiment)
Bob Consiglio - Midlands
Colin Armstrong - Geordie
Legs Lane - Scouser
Ian Tring - south West
plus a New Zealander and a South African.

You missed out McNabb and Ryan, any reason why ?

If you knew Vince well do you think he was portrayed badly in the books and films? Everyone i have seen or read they made him out as some kind of coward who didnt want to fight which i thought was a bit out of order

I didn't miss them out, I just refuse to get involved in their silly games. 'Andy McNab's real name is Steve Mitchell and 'Chris Ryan' is Colin Armstrong.

Vince Philips was one of the best, if not the best soldier I ever met. As fit as fit gets and as hard as nails. If that were not true he would not have passed the commando course or special forces selection. I wasn't there but Vince was no coward. The fact that Armstrong got the shit kicked out of him in Hereford by a guy called Monster Adams for what he said about Vince should tell you how well thought of Vince Philips was.

'McNab' didn't publicise getting shagged by the Iraqis after being captured did he. Maybe he liked it.

I read a few books on the Bravo two zero mission and sensed a bit of bad blood between Ryan and McNob they both tried to big themselves up and put the other one down, any idea what that was all about ?

Why did they, especially McNob feel the need to say the things they did about Vince? Like you said, ive watched a few tv shows on the SAS and he has always been talked highly of

Chapter one: we couldn't carry enough ammo.
Chapter seven: we laid down thousands of rounds and killed 250 Iraqi's

Bullshit from start to finish. McNab was lucky that the Commanding Officer didn't court martial him.

All cocks !

So they did a few years in the Army, fook me there 100's of 1000's of lads done it and dont walk round like some sort of fookin celebrity.

A night ar Pop's & Eddie's in Rheindahlen was a challenge, getting a hand-job cheap in Charlottenberg was a challenge, running away from Ragheads must have been a breeze

Get over it, the fooking lot of ya!

Want a challenge; try Union Strasse in Plymouth. Now thats a war!

The Hereford library pisses me off too, 22 have been made out to be some kind of super soldiers, it just ain't true. Good certainly but their ultra gung-ho attitude has fuck ed up more ops than soft mick. These days the SAS don't measure up very well to either the Royal Marines, Para Reg and definitely don't hold a candle to the SBS. Most decent soldier can pass selection these days - its a matter of choice.

And as for them referring to themselves as 'blades' oh do give over!

I was told Union Street had become civilised these days. Me and my mates took a trip down Union Street one summer night in 1978 ... it was like a battlezone. Sailors of all boats and nationalities fighting between themselves and the regulators.

I spent most of 2001 getting pissed down Union Street. If it'd calmed down and become civilised by then I would hate to see what it used to be like in the old days when you's when down there.
