Gutted when I heard the news this morning. A big part of my uni life was spent listening to Sparklehorse, a fabulous band with some of the most heartaching songs ever written. Mark Linkous also got me on to a short story writer I'd never heard of called Breece D'J Pancake; Pancake was a massive influence on Linkous and his short stories are fantastic. Pancake committed suicide at the age of 28 from a shotgun blast to the head. Strange hows things work out.

By the way, I've heard his death wasn't pretty - took him at least 3 hours to die. Not good.

can't understand why someone takes their own life - it's not like we are here that long to start with anyways...... I can't help but not look past the point of people who have died who had no choice in the matter.... who would have loved to live a bit longer...... mental illness is obviously to blame but I can't understand the act of suicide

I used to listen almost exclusively to Good Morning Spider when my Nanna was dying....I can barely play it now, but its still one of my all time favourite albums.

I think we all have low ebbs at times in our lives [many of them at the Vic!] and may wonder what the point in it all is.
Some people just take it to the extreme that theres none, and end it all, and others have the ability to get it out their heads and carry on living.
During my own low ebbs I've thought about it, but would never have the courage to actually carry it out!
