.....................booing a player who has been at the club for ten years and made over 400 appearances for the club when he comes on as a sub. The question is rhetorical incidentally, in fact booing any player who comes on as a sub is borderline moronic. Interestingly Turner indicated that Gamble was shattered in his post match interview with the ever incisive Brian Arrundale

Pretty moronic but I don't think anyone booed Humphreys, certainly when he took the field a few booed (a noisy minority) when Gamble's number went up but if they'd have exercised a bit of patience they'll have noticed the ice pack that was being applied to his ankle with in seconds of sitting on the bench.

I haven't rated Humphreys for a few years but booing a player who is coming on is counter productive. That said I don't see why CT can't give one or two others some competitive time.

Anyone who boos a Pools player coming on as a sub is moron and should be shat on from a large height.

It doesn't matter if he has played 4 games or 400, he's done nothing wrong and it's not his fault that the management pick him regardless.

He's merely an employee doing what he's told to do, what's he supposed to do, turn to Turner and say ... " ... best not put me on boss. it might upset a few, best if I sit here eh?"....

Fan:- an enthusiastic devotee, follower, or admirer of a sport

Supporter:- an adherent, follower, backer, or advocate

Moron:- term for a person with a mental age between 7 and 12, and a common offensive slang expression for a person considered stupid

Think this sums up the people who boo their own players. banghead

To those suggesting that Turner might give others a taste of first team football rather than putting RH on to do the job he was required to do I say we need to win games and take points in our current situation. As Turner said Gamble hasn't trained for most of the week and it is good to have a player of Ritchies experience and quality to go on and sit in front of the back four as he was instructed to do. At the current time we can't afford to be giving youngsters a run out for their professional development!

A reasoned arguement until you used the word quality. He's experienced yes, but well past it.

humps put in probably the worst 45 minutes of his, or anyone elses career at millwall last week. actually it wasnt as bad as his performance at huddersfield last season , but it was right up there battling it out for second place. but he still get his game because hey, he is experienced.

why dont we bring bark mark tinkler ? he also has bags of experience. or john mcgovern ? and brian honour, that would be a very experienced midfield four.

if you cant bring a player like rowell on with 20 minutes to go when we are 2 up and playing a team who havent won for 13 games, when do you bring him on ?

in fact why bother having a youth set up at all. lets just bin it altogether and use the money saved on some bionic limbs for humphreys so that he can carry on playing forever.

Just to correct my earlier comment. I never said RH was a quality player Turner did and if you'd read the post properly you would have known that! AND clever as Turner is he would be hard pressed to bring on a sub who wasn't in the eighteen and indeed hasn't been for many weeks!

I don't get the whole Rowell situation personally. The twice he was started in the league were two very tough away games last season at Scunthorpe and MK Dons which I was at, in both he was arguably our best player even managing to mix it physically yet he hasn't really had another sniff.

I'm a massive fan of Richie Humphreys and a man and a servant to the club but lets be honest playing wise as a midfield player at this level he is no longer up to it. He's still a proper footballer who plays the game in the right way I just don't think he has the legs anymore. It wouldn't be a crying shame if a kid like Rowell (who actually isn't a kid he's 21 this year) got disillusioned without ever been given a proper chance as he clearly has ability. He's also an attacking player more use on the bench than Ritchie who's really only now a sitting midfield player, when did he last score a goal?

Back to the sub on Saturday though, it was logical. I wouldn't have liked a centre midfield pair of Sweeney and Rowell sitting on a 2-0 lead, other options for a holding midfielder are probably only moving Gary Liddle or Ben Clark who was suspended (and is worse than Ritchie in that position). So Ritchie still has a role within the squad but we should be looking to speed up Rowell’s progress before it's too late.

P J I fully agree. I just wonder what has happened with Rowell I don't think he's even been on the bench since christmas although he is appearing regularly in the reserves. For those suggesting that we abandon the youth policy because we've only had 2 0r 3 players emerge at first team level I say Tommy Miller, Adam Boyd, matty Robson, James Brown give the lie to such foolish views.
