Anybody know of any good driving schools in the town that do "crash courses"? Our lass is planning to visit my dad and get her test. She has nearly passed before so twenty lessons in a week should do the trick.

She is very intolerant of fat ex-coppers so don't recommend any of them.

Dave behind the bar in the Millhouse has his own school, El Paso I think it's called.

So.

So far I know that EAD's Dad might or might not do some lessons, El Paso might or might not do crash courses and that crash courses might or might not work.

Does anybody know anybody who passed their test in the last couple of years and said how good their teacher was? I appreciate it is a daft thing to ask about on a football forum but a trip to Hartlepool for a crash course is her best bet and because we don't live anywhere even near I can't ask round myself. Any help would be much appreciated as I'm sick of having to drive to the shops!

Our lass started lessons at 17 and she is 34 next week and after well over 200 lessons she has never even sat her test banghead

She hasn't had a lesson now for a few years but when she was taking them the instructor would say your ready for your test now and she would never get back in touch, its a nervous thing but it pisses me right off

EAD's dad Ian runs Ideal School of Motoring his number is actually 01429 269068 not as listed on that site. He taught me and was outstandingly good. I'd talk to him first.

I passed first time with Glen Smith - the man's sound as hell and a huge Poolie. He's here: http://drivingschoolhartlepool.com/

Had about 30-35 lessons, know him through a friend. Get involved!

When my mrs was learing to drive, one Sunday morning the driving instructor didn't turn up so I suggested that I took her out for a bit of practice....(no, not dogging or anything like that). She drove around for an hour with both of us in varying levels of panic and then we headed home. When she drove up the drive she had the idea of turning the steerng wheel to go round corners but hadn't yet got the idea of straightening up. So, up the drive we went and then headed for the front door with the possibility that we were going to go through it and drive up the stairs. I grabbed the steering wheel and attempted to straighten up but the car caught the corner of the house and stripped the nearside wing clean off.

Six weeks later she passed her test first time.

The best bit about Ian's lessons were the end of the lesson where we went to pick up the next learner and they were normally 19 and fit as fook.

Does he still say 'when it's bendy, 3's your friendy' and 'if it straight, 4's your mate'

Sorry I don't do crash courses, far too busy to be able to drop 20 hours from my diary in one week, as would most good driving instructors, there are plenty out there though that will do them but don't go for the cheapest, ask yourself why they are cheap then ask yourself, how can they afford to drop 20 hours from their diary or is it because they have 20 hours to spare, if they have, why have they ? Probably 'cos they ain't got enough customers, then ask yourself why again ?
EAD's dad hasn't retired by the way but for the same reasons as above, I doubt if he'll be able to offer you 20 hours in one week, very good driving instructor = busy driving instructor ..... simples !!!!!!

Fairpoint Mr Codyakker and I know you're right but...we live abroad and there is no chance of her passing a theory test in French whereas she already has one in English. The option of getting back to the UK for a couple of months just isn't there so it looks like the only way.

Would you say go for a bigger school that has a few instructors and can fit in big blocks of time because of that rather than a lack of bookings?

Yep, try AA rather than BSM all of their instructors are FULLY qualified whereas that isn't guaranteed with BSM and the AA are generally better anyway.
Try and bear in mind also that there's currently around a 4 week waiting list for the practical test in Hartlepool , good luck and if there's anything I can help with just shout up.

you can book a test on the internet and then keep checking for a cancellation or even a saturday morning which they usually release when all other dates are booked(a bit more expensive on a saturday mind)
