"Portsmouth to be offered £32million rescue deal by Premier League, The Premier League owe Portsmouth the parachute cash over the course of the next two years - along with some TV money - and they feel that it is right to give them that advance because of their current crisis"

Why is it right anyother league club would have been told tough, and went to the dogs, but as Scudamore and his like want the Premier League to not face the crisis of a team going under they will back down to a team that has been essentially cheating

The Premier League will do anything that they can to stop Portsmouth going bust this season. By giving them this money early all they're doing is pretty much ensuring that they won't exist in 12 months time, but by then it'll be the Football League's problem and not theirs.

My opinion is that the Premiership are just postponing the inevitable. Sooner or later some club in the Premiership will go bust.

It is following the Italian league of the 80's when they were paying the top wages in Europe and attracting foreign stars to their teams.

According to UEFA finding the Premiership owes 56%( or reportedly stands at £1.3 BILLION) of all debt in European football. That debt can actually be increased as only 18 of the 20 teams were included. Portsmouth and West Ham were not granted UEFA licences due to the amount of debt they actually had.

Maybe it's time for clubs to use bonus payments instead of high wages. If memory serves me right I think Pools may have used that for a couple of seasons now. Players are paid a basic wage with top up's depending on position they finished in league, as opposed to win/draw bonuses. I'm sure someone can put me right on that issue.

If this is right it doesn't seem to be too successful.

Spot on Mr R, that's exactly what they're doing, and I'm sure they saw that possibility when they formed the Premiership.

The Man Utd situation is getting interesting too.

how it has taken this long for it to happen is the biggest surprise

Paying journeymen players in excess of 30 grand a week ( and we're talking about the worst players at the lowest clubs) - wtf is that all about?

Portsmouth were due £16,000,000 a season parachute payments for the next two seasons if/when relegated. Thay are simply getting what they were gonna get anyway when they need it.
As for another league club going to the dogs, the Premiership is a stand alone league, so they're 'looking after' their own. Pompey are only one of those visiting clubs to the Premiership and it's a pity one of the big boys wasn't going into administration, but are they just laying the foundations using Pompey as a sacrificial lamb to set a precedent to protect the same big boys if the situation arises for them ....?
