What the feck is the point of Locking Threads on a Message/Discussion Forum????

Fair enough if it goes a bit dodgy etc....but for fecks sake a bit of friendly banter here and there and it's getting locked!!!! banghead

There was clearly people reading the thread and taking part in it and it was well reasoned and very little abuse. Why cant the admin just not read it if he dont like it likewise other members who dont want to read it. Locking it serves no purpose at all.
