What is the difference between "Man of Kent" and "Kentish man"?

It goes back to an ancient Kentish legend. The county was said to be divided into two halfs and the boundary line was said to be the River Medway, which runs through Gillingham (the town I'm from), Chatham (the town I was born in), Rochester and Strood.

Originally, invaders who settled in the Western half of Kent were Saxons from Germany and those invaders who settled in the Eastern half were Jutes, who were a Germanic people, now from Jutland in modern day Denmark. It turns out I'm actually the 3rd Great-Grandson of a Danish immigrant who travelled from Copenhagen to live in Hartlepool and that's how our family's life in Hartlepool begins.

According to the ancient legend, those people who were said to be born on the East Bank of the River Medway up until the Channel coast were said to be born in East Kent and came to be known as "Men/Maids of Kent".

Those people who were said to be born on the West Bank of the River Medway up until the boundary of London, were said to be born in West Kent and became known as "Kentish Men/Maids".

Apparantly, there is also another part of the legend which dictates that Eastern "Men of Kent" are said to be very honourable, whereas if you're from the West, you're regarded as very ordinary.

I was born a Man of Kent, but I regard myself as a 'Poolie as a direct blood relation of someone who was born in the former West Hartlepool, so I decided that my name on here should be Poolie of Kent, in light of my ancestry.

So it's a bit like the Headland/West Hartlepool situation?
