No doubt to return in an opposition team and score his first league goal against us.

Good luck baby David, you certainly didn't lack effort.

good luck to the lad.

I wonder if this might free some wages, probably not a lot, for a striker on loan?

Good luck for the future, David. It's a fantastic opportunity for him.

I will never forget the moment I listened to the Stoke City game on BBC Radio 5 live. The commentator just suddenly screamed "FOLEEEEEEEEEEEEYYY!!!", and I just immediately knew then what had happened. clappp clappp clappp clappp

For the record though, I'm not very happy he's going. I think it's a bit of a blow to be honest to hear he wants to move on. banghead

It's always a blow to see a good player leave the Club, regardless of how many appearances they've managed to make lately.

He was the one that scored that thunderbolt of a goal against Stoke City to knock them out of the Cup.

He must have been a good player to do that at least.

Unfortunately, he just didn't seem to get the chance that he needed.

Gus De Lella scored a brilliant free kick once, I think that answers your point

Had way too many chances POK. I'm sure he's a nice lad and he always tried his heart out, but he wasn't up to it!

Good Luck to him though!

FFS you really are stupid, anyone could hit one of them in their lifetime and have it go in, how many times did he do it in the league????

Yes thats 0,zero, nil fook all.

He is an average northern league player at best, couldn't even score for barrow when he was on loan.

Here's a thought, try thinking before you type.

I'm not fickle at all and base my opinion of Foley on seeing him play, so he scored against 2 prem teams, lets strip richie of his title and hand it to baby david and have him replace boydy in the starting line up every week, i didn't compare him to ant current player but seeing as though you did i'm sure i know which one of the two i'd rather have in my team!!!

also for the record i have never rated Foley and didn't go overboard and get all excited when he scored that goal, it didn't make him a better player all of a sudden.

however he is a young player and trying to better himself so i wish him all the best, now for his wage to go towards a decent striker with some pace on loan then i'll be pleased.

i think if you compare the two players' careers with pools you will see a clear winner with league goals...

Behan is a MUCH better player than foley.

98 football league appearances 0 goals and he's a forward.

I think that says everything, I wish him luck as he did his best but his best was a long way from being good enough to play at this level. He should never have played that many games to be fair, to argue he never got a chance stpid rolfl

I too wish him well.
In the reserves he started most of his games as a striker and scored a good few goals.
In his 98 appearances for the first team, in how many did he START as a STRIKER.
Does anyone know as a matter of interest????

He always played in advanced role though, right wing, up front or in the hole. Come on man in 98 goes you'd expect a full back to get on the scoresheet maybe once, quite a few keepers have!

He might have done ok for the Ressies, maybe that was about his level?

I'm not inferring anything Pj so no need for the come on man bit.

I am asking a question BEFORE I offer a deliberation, which may be the very same conclusion as your good self.

Come on man I only was trying to be humorous

I remember when he started up front with Mackay at Oldham last season, the most lightweight shitty front two to ever start in League One?

Ultimately whatever you say about how many games he started, or how many times he played up front or however nice a lad he is, he wasn't good enough was he?

He wasn't good enough, you're right. However he scored a goal every other game for the reserves and averaged 1.5 goals every game for the youths which makes me believe there's a better player in there than we ever saw in the first team.

We never got the best out of David Foley and a lot of his is his 'fault', there were also a lot of supporters who got on his back everytime he made the smallest of mistakes (much like Robson). Like Robson, he was clearly a confidence player and his head would easily drop which makes it all the more ridiculous that some of the brianless idiots on the terraces liked abusing him. It's players like him that need a hug and encouraging, not that they're shit and need subbing.

It's a shame he didn't have the mental toughness and physical attributes to prove himself for us, he'd have probably been more succesful if we were still in League 2. Infact, I can all but guarantee he would have ripped some of those defenders to shreds.

I hope he can make the most of his talent in America and wish him all the best. That goal against Stoke and the £22 he singlehandedly won me when we beat Scunny at their place will always mean I have a soft spot for the lad!! :coool:

I couldn't really answer that Mr Derwent, if I was going guess I'd say he probably say he only ever started a couple of games up front for Pools. He was mainly used as a winger because I think the belief was that he was too small to play up front in League Football.

TPP, I actually agree about the League Two comment, in the promotion season I thought he did pretty well at times as an impact sub. I remember a game at home to Peterborough when we were all over them but couldn't score and he came on played well and had a hand in the winner. He also was an good game at home to the Loids. That West Brom game last season as well he didn’t just score he played very, very well. Maybe it was confidence and mental ability? It’s still an attribute you need to have, maybe he’ll be back at this level one day proving us wrong, I doubt it but I wouldn’t begrudge him it as to be fair we’ve far worse players with far less ability.

Good luck Mr Foley.
It's a pity a few more on here couldn't be a bit more complimentary instead of slagging the young lad off.
I just hope he hasn't had the misfortune to read this thread:)

Can't blame the lad for upping sticks and giving it a go, fair play to him for not sitting on his arse and running down his contract, alan power style.

Hope it works out for him, had a lot of willing but i think lacked the physicality for the lower leagues

foley was not alone in suffering from poor player management from youth team through to first team.

too many of these kids play in one position for the youth team and reserve team and are then asked to carry out a completely different role in the first team. you wouldnt get many apprentice bricklayers for instance completing their course and then being expected to be competent electricians.

craddock for instance was a centre half in the youth team and reserves and did a great job in both. he then gets played at right back in the firstb team and folk on the terraces expected him to be brilliant immediately.

robson played left wing inthe youth team and ressies and was then asked to play left back for the first team.

foley played up front for the youth team and ressies and was then asked to play right wing.

james brown has been asked to do likewise.

in all these instances you have kids learning a trade and trying to adapt to new roles. unlike most people they are having to do this in the public eye. it boils my piss when people in the crowd who have little or no talent themselves choose to bully ( and theres no other word for it ) these kids.

we have all seen it happen ( maidens and brackstone in the ldv vans thingy against doncaster being a prime example ) when a group of arseholes in the crowd decide almost from kick off to single a kid out and subject him to a torrent of abuse every time he goes near the ball.

okay maybe these kids were never going to make it anyway but at pools a minority in the crowd make it virtually impossible.

with foley i know people within the club saw enough in him in training and the reserves to believe he was worth perservering with.

while the lad didnt make the grade it has to be remembered a lot of his appearances were either on the wing or from the subs bench. i cant recall him starting many games as a striker.

Agree with that Chip.
That's why I asked the question.
We are doing it in the first team at the moment with Hartley at left back.
I think young Peter is doing ok, but would he do better in the position which is most comfortable to him.
Take Sweeney, we all know what he is good at but, until the second half of the Leeds game, we have refused to use him in his best role. Gamble / Sweeney............is that the new Tinkler / Sweeney??? If it is the question needs to be asked, why has it taken so long????
Why oh why can't we recruit a competent, recognised left back?????
Michael Rose was excellent for Norwich the other day, we obviously recognised his talent in that position when we were after him so, when we didn't get him, we still have to pursue the need. Don't we??????????
Turner has concentrated on quantity rather than quality.
Finally Chris, if you do actually give any of the youngsters a chance, play them in the position they are comfortable with. Then the money and effort we put into youth development just might bear fruit.

I think it's a bit of a blow to be honest to hear he wants to move on. banghead

But once again, good luck David. clappp clappp clappp clappp rolf rolf rolf

When I saw the title of this thread I opened it knowing that POK would have come out with some rubbish but Im afraid I couldnt help chuckling when I read that. You are an absolute cracker POK. Cheers for making my day. clappp clappp clappp

If only we gave him chance eh!

Two sub appearances this season is not giving him a chance in my opinion, but he's gone, we could talk about this until the cows come home.

I agree POK. Im sure since last season he has improved dramatically and is now a goalscoring machine who can muscle opposition cloggers off the ball with ease.
