Everyone has a favourite record that you think how the fek did that track do so badly in the charts?
So in light of that your allowed one choice only, and mine is Staircase Mystery by Siouxsie and the Banshees only got to No.24 in the charts, but when I think of some of the sh.te that got higher!

it goes to show that quality does not indeed equal quantity
I was aghast when the bairn had the music channel on the other day, and those pricks from that tv karaoke show with stupid hair were on there. They've actually allowed these nobbers to make a record
Music industry is well and truly fu-cked thanks to tossers like Stock aitken waterman, cowell etc
They should all get that "beam up" tube like they do to that bloke in the "Man crisps" advert

The top 40 is a joke these days, it's all the same recycled beat with a whiny digital voice over the top repeating the same shite catchy lyric. And don't get me started on them claiming this to be "R&B" banghead

The music charts are very similar to football. As everyone knows that Hartlepool United are the greatest team on the planet but they don't do very well in the league chart.

For a long time (in fact until the 1988 re-issue of "Should I Stay...) The Clash and AC/DC held the record (jointly) for the most UK Chart Hits WITHOUT a Top Ten hit single..I think they both had 18-19 records that got INTO the Top 40, but NOT the Top Ten!

Frightening when you think Tight Fit had 3 Top Ten hits in 1982.....

What's more frightening is the fact that Mr. Cowells fookin x-factor clowns get to number 1 every bloody year banghead

I stopped paying attention to the charts back in 1981, when that bollocks by Laurie Anderson "Oh Superman" got to No.2 in the charts. I dont honestly know anyone who owned up to buying that sh.te, and if they did I would'nt speak to the clueless fuppers again.

Two Little boys by the famous local boys not making at least the top ten was a travesty of gigantic proportions.

I haven't read a chart since..................no justice in them.

The Wednesday following the release was one wierd day! There is a media only midweek chart and we had gone in at No 18. They noted this and the fact that we were the higest new entry apart from Madonna and no one in the music business knew anything about it. They all needed something for their various chart shows in terms of an MP3 and a picture but no one seemed to be able to establish who to talk to. They rang Pools and obtained my number.

Sat in the office at work and the receptionist rang through.

"ermm... I've got the radio 1 chart show on for you' ok, put him through

follwed by "ermmm...... I've got 'The Chart Show' on for you"

Five minutes later "ermm... I've got radio 5 live on for you" ok, put him through

A little later "I've got Radio Tees on for you"

Followed by TTTV / BBC NE / BBC Cleveland etc etc etc.............

I hadn't mentioned it to anyone at work and they were a little bemused as to why the worlds media wanted to talk to me that day.

And you know what, Phil (ECG) and I got all the publicity but the single most important organisational contribution was made by Mr Ripper because the distribution had gone pear shaped and we had nowhere to sell it. He managed to sort out the deal with Adsa and Music Zone. Without that there would have been no chart success, no big sales, nothing except a garage full of CD's and being reduced to selling them out of the back of cars.

We were jolly green giants walking the Earth - with guns!

Well done to all three of you...............and well done to me for buying ten copies...........and making everyone who had a lift in me car ( or our lass's car ) listen to it over and over again. Great days.

Hey Paulus, after reading your post I pulled out my Siouxsie 45's this afty...

Hong Kong Garden
Playground Twist
Staircase Mystery
Israel
Christine
Fireworks
Happy House
Love In A Void

What a great afternoon!!!!!
Incidentally, I bought "Hong Kong Garden" the day WH Smith opened in the Town Centre!![/quote]

Elvis - The haunting guitar work in the Staircase and Playground tracks to me is very Johnny Marr' ish (aka How soon is now and The Queen is dead), John McKay, I think, was the man in question. I never get sick of any of those tracks, and hope you enjoy them as much as I do.

The late John Mcgeoch was also a fine Banshees guitarist.
