I kid you not) he would have appeared before a magistrate, who would send him to hospital, then he'd be transferred to Fox Hill prison (feel free to check out its human rights record) until his trial, usually about 18 months to two years later.

He'd get bummed rotten, contract Aids and die.

They're going to reintroduce hanging here for murder. It's always been on the statute books here but any sentence was quashed on appeal to the Privvy Council in the UK. But with the PC's dissolution, they're dusting off the gallows.
