In the " olden " days, if you helped to clear the pitch, you got a bag of fish and chips.
You don't do these things for reward though.
Madjohn loves Pools, loves the stats and I would bet that he thoroughly enjoys contributing to the programme.
A small token of appreciation from the cub is a nice gesture, but thank you for your efforts would do me.
When we were kids we used to go to the ground in the summer and do a bit of painting, tidying up etc. Great fun.

as i said to 1 bunker member this weekend, anyone doin club work and gettin free tickets is fair enough, but what this FTE shouldn do is have a dig at the people who'd have to pay to get in for not going, if everyone got free tickets i'm sure we'd all go. And thats all i'll say on the matter

FTE= full time employment(employee /effort) in fact a number of things so take your pick, including some that I'm presuming he doesn't mean like

Forschung Und Technische Entwicklung (German: research and technological development)

But what you are implying is that if these FTE???????, whatever the fook that means, didnt get free tickets they wouldnt go. Which is not only wrong its fookin disrespectful.

And they do what they do, because they are knowledgeable in the subject. Infact they re like walking encyclopedias about pools.

They could of course just not bother doing their articles, and other little known things, but I am sure the programmes wouldnt be as good.

Lets face it, if you took over your knowledge of all current things HUFC wouldnt be up to much would it?
i always thought i knew a decent amount about pools....until i went to oldham with elvis, chip and smythe. A fountain and a half of knowledge these fellas. If some of them do things for pools and get free tickets in return then good on them. They deserve them.

You're out of order yubep. As Dibbs correctly says, the club are not handing out "free" tickets; they are paying for work done, and it's hardly a fortune. If the club were to use an outside source to research and write some of the articles you find in our programme these past few years it would cost them a fair bit more than £20 a pop. No, the club gets a good deal because the people who are writing the articles want to do so, and don't care too much about being rewarded.

Also you won't find me or Elvis or anyone else criticising people who genuinely can not afford to attend matches. If someone can afford to go but chooses not to then surely people are free to criticise/question that, and the non-attendee is free to defend their position. So I'll say what I want, especially when people criticise performances and players that they haven't seen.

Quite right Mr Mad. I no longer get to every match for various reasons (next week being cos the club don't want to sell tickets when people are able to buy them) but what I don't do is comment on performances of games that I wasn't at.

Good grief, Yubep. This must be the ultimate in grumpiness and illogic. If you want a 'free' ticket, all you have to do is go and earn one.

What's a free ticket??? I don't have one for my article, to be honest I am happy doing it and enjoy the chance to let people know what is happening with a variety of things

The club are the town's club as the logo says and it pains me when i read on here people slating the staff who work there, be it about tickets, strips, snow, food, drink, crowds, half time entertainment etc.

Whatever it is someone is always willing to have a go, but the team off the pitch are committed to providing a top-class service to their public and other customers.

Freeloaders, we've all worked in jobs with liggers and hangers-on, those who turn up, do squat, take as much out of it as they can and go home. No-one like that inside the club that I have come across. There may well be fans who take advantage of it, but you get that everywhere, people wanting govvy jobs, expecting discount in shops etc.

Me, I'm not prepared to sit here and discuss what I do for Pools, but needless to say I'll do ask much that is asked of me, whether I have the time or not, and like Phil and John no doubt, it goes beyond what is seen in the programme. I will say that filling two pages in a programme with fresh innovative or up to date ideas is difficult enough, never mind four or five. John's work is admirable and interesting this season, a different slant and I like it. Phil's stuff is always personable and funny and this season it invokes a lot of memories. There's a lot of research goes into stuff like this and if they or I were to do something similar to what I do for Pools' programme for a top-flight club, I could pick up a hefty fee over the course of the season. Do you know some clubs actually employ and pay club historians.

For the record, I started going to Pools in March 1977 and have only written for the programme for the past couple of years and will continue to go when they grow sick of me typing off instead of of and to instead of too.

One of you commented on I thought I knew so much about Pools until meeting phil et al. See my signature.....need i say more

I second that!!

Its just not matchdays were you see/read things that fans do for the club people are doing much more stuff during the week that goes un-noticed by a lot of people.
Me I love what I do and since I've been going for a lot of years like most on here am glad to help the club out.
One way of getting a free ticket without having to do much is sell the clubs lottery tickets (pools on the move) I can't remember how many you have to sell. But I did this for years before I got the part of H'Angus and it all helps the club.

Excuse me if I'm wrong but apparently there is someone from football in the community who flogs off cheap tickets for every home game.
Where he gets these tickets I have no idea.
