I still remember only two years ago studying that novel for my A Level English Literature course.

I still remember the poignant scene in the novel when Holden sees "f*** you" written on the door of one of the cubicles in the toilets at the school.

I hope President Obama pays fitting tribute to him.

RIP JD Salinger

Chapman had a definite obsession with the book, and with its anti-hero Holden Caulfield. Apparently he was sat reading his copy when the police arrived.

I didn't know this, about Chapman's obsession, but the book surely wouldn't have inspired him to kill JL, tho he might have identified with the character.

As well as 'Catcher', I liked a story of Salinger's called, 'For Esme with Love and Squalor.' Seem to have lost my copy now. sadx
