On official HUFC site they are asking about the game of the decade, what was yours and for what reason?

I've gone for the 4-3 win over Luton, 2 really good sides with Pools nicking the win at the end.

The Hull game for me, marked our arrival as a team to be reckoned with for once.

Edit: the 3-0 away game.

Great game - The Sheff Wed game where Boyd scored 3 in the rain wasn't bad either....

Most of the above, but my vote goes to the 'Hugh The Hammer' display against Luton. I thought we invented the phrase 'Never Say Die' that night. Whatever they chucked at us, we picked it up and chucked it back. Wonderful swaggering football and a joy to watch. clappp clappp clappp

i would have gone for the friday night demolition of sheff wed in the rain when boyd scored that sublime goal BUT the hull 0 pools 3 that ended in us getting to the play-offs or the 2-0 win at home to tranmere or the 2nd leg at prenton park oooh so many to choose from

What tosh are you lot rambling on about above?

Game of the decade?

Day out of the decade?

Absolute moment of the decade?

A visit to an oversized white elephant stadium, a day laughing at darlow.

End of.

FACT!

Many great games over the last decade including those listed but I have to agree with other posters, for sheer unadulterated pleasure 3-0 at the elephant is totally unbeatable. the very fact that Darlo fans I know still say "don't mention that fucking game" says it all! Walking back to the car and watching their fans slink away in silence was priceless. I watch the goals at least once a week--- a total annihilation and the beauty of it is it will be a long time before the hapless humbug shirted halfwits get a chance of revenge.

i have never felt prouder than when i was singing two little boys before that match chip, but the result and the manner of it leaves a bitter taste in my mouth at the same time.

My favourite game was probably the hull away game or the 7-0 thrashing of swansea

I felt the play-off final should be there too. For me the other game of the decade is Boyd's hat-trick in the rain against the Wendies.

aye was very surreal like. Standing in that big street with 17000 other people was awesome. Seeing my uncle and his friends pull up in a hartlepool taxi with the meter showing several hundred quid was genius.

I concur with the chipster , the game had everything ...going behind to an early goal an equaliser and Effion's face at scoring it on his home international crowd.. Taking the lead at our end with that bullet header from Jon Daly.. Disbelief when those cheating diving bastads (c) adg gave that tit of a ref the opportunity to give a penalty with nine minutes to go AND to add insult to injury that damned bounder of ref sent off Westie... that terrible half hour when they scored those two goals.. but I wouldn't of changed a minute of it (well apart from the minute when that cheating damned bounder dived)

DEFINITELY the best day of my poolie life so far..even with the long trudge home..

I fear it may be many years before we scale those heights again... sadx

As for an honourable mention this one Hartlepool United 3 Bournemouth 2 04/05 has to be one of the best five minutes in the vic over the last decade even with that twat boyeson trying to fook us up again.. but Andy Appleby had other ideas!

Most of what I would choose have been mentioned. The day out at the Millennium well up there.

Some other's that not been mentioned

Although I wasn't there I'm little surprised the 5-2 win at Port Vale in the snow in 2004 not been mentioned, seen the goals on tv and I would have loved to be there as the snow came down way it did would have been great fun as goals went in.

The "derby" game in the FA Cup in 2004 at Sunderland, where we deserved a draw and a second chance at the Vic against them.

The 3-2 win over Forest in 2006 simply because it kept our hopes of staying up alive, though we all know it didn't turn out that we stayed up.

Probably not on many people's "game of the decade" but games that stick in my mind.

If we ask about the best day of the decade then yeah, the Millenium Stadium or the Echo Chamber were great days out.
If its game of the decade then Pools 4 - Luton 3 was purely 7 simply a great game of football.Competetive & entertaining for the full 90 minutes, scoreline swung both ways,we got one of my all time favourite goals & Boyd showed his mettle by converting that last minute penalty.
Pools 4 - Luton 3 gets my vote

That's OK then, it was alright for you to cry as an 11 year old in 1991.

A very precocious child, being a member of two groups around the same time.

I smiled when I saw "The Bear" at the bottom of that as well! He's instantly recognisable in the crowd on the pitch after the Northampton game in 91 as well!!!

The 4-3 against Luton, by a f***ing mile.

Greatest game I've ever seen as a Pools fan, perhaps as a football fan. It would've been the only game in five seasons I'd missed at home, though weather meant it was rescheduled. Plus it was against Newell. Plus it went to the wire. Plus it was always close. Plus Provett saved on the line in the last minute.

But Hugh's goal... best Pools goal ever? At least top five. F***ing hell, it was beautiful.

great post that dibbler

I watched the 2nd leg on telly, and remember phoning Phil[EAD] up after the 90 almost crying and shouting never say die - for some reason I went into the front garden to make the call and the neighbours must've thought I was crackers!
When the pen went in me and jack were just in a mad huddle on the floor screaming and cheering and crying [me :uhoh: ] and again the wife thought we were mad!!

the whole going to cardiff thing is something I'll never forget, 5 of us in my old campervan trundling down with petrol pissing out of the tank, parking up to kip and waking up in some posh estate in bristol with the 5 of us slashing in someones garden!

what an unbelievable day that was, aye, the best definately

There are some pretty good arguments made on here for alternatives to the thumping of darlow at the white elephant.

You're all wrong though cos that was THE best day out. Cardiff could only have beaten it had we won.

The reason I also finally went for the Darlo game, if we'd have won at Cardiff it would have been no contest, but we didn't. I still to this day can't believe the view looking back from the A66 to the solid line of Poolie buses filling the Tees Flyover. If the Loids, and the Police, had allowed it I'm sure we could have beaten the number taken to the SOL, against the Mackems. It's that passion for our football club, and town, that will never see us get into the position that poor old Darlo find themselves in now.

Tranmere away in the second leg.
I spent most of extra time and all the penalties bar humphries in the bogs.
I just couldn't watch it.
The joy amoungst the fans after the winning pen was something I don't think il ever witness again at a footy match.

Most of what I remember from that Tranmere game is from watching it back on the telly and during the penalties the camera seemed to focus on my brother quite a lot, I think it was every other penalty if not more

I cant believe the Darlo game tops the list.
Pools winning at Tranmere that night was like pools winning the F.A.Cup, shagging Claudio Schieffer and winning the lottery all into one
It was that good

2nd comes the 4-3 at Peterborough.
When Nleson scored the winning goal we went ballistic.
It was a lovely red hot day and we sang on the train all the way back to Darlo.

But only a limited number could go, 4000 of us went to Darlo, I enjoyed the Tranmere game, but watching it on the tele wasn't as good as being there.

Aye, Tranmere was that good BUT the trouncing of darlow at their new ground was like getting Helen Chamberlain in the bed alongside Schiffer, the FA Cup and the lottery winnings with the added bonus that they were doing the lezzy bits aswell as sorting my every twisted desire.

Hope that helps.

One match that gave me great satisfaction was the 2-0 away win at Rushden, great following, good atmosphere, but the fact that after being beaten for the title the seaon before at the place and the antics of a certain Mr Turley, it gave me the greatest of pleasure to watch him get too complacent and have the ball taken off him by Boydy and score, what goes around, comes around. rolfl

It would have been one of the greatest games of the decade...if that referee hadn't sent Westwood off - he never touched the bloke!

It's a shame.

If defeats count, then what about Bristol City in the play-off 2nd leg? That was emotional.

4-3 at Peterbrough sticks in mind due to the scorching weather, Nelson's goal and the feeling of "we've arrived"

I might be mistaken but I thought we played better football in the 4-1 win (particularly before Watson went off) than in the 3-0. We never really got out of 2nd gear in that one, never had to. Not saying it wasn't a great day, like.
