"Alarm at 4:20am, cup of tea, slice of toast, set off in the dark, pick the others up, daylight as we pass Birmingham, fry up and cup of tea at Hopwood Park services, back on the road, why’s that car behind flashing me, it has blue lights, oh, I’m being pulled over by the police, £60 and 3 points fixed penalty, I wanted 3 points but for Darlo not my licence, on we go to the south west, nice hotel in sunny Torquay, on to the Union Inn, meet the others, Boots & Laces, into the Plainmoor for the first time in my life, £3.20 for a cheeseburger, at least I got student discount at the turnstile, Buzz Lightyear, Smurf and Mr Blobby adding to the other 76 Darlo fans in attendance, blinding sun, not a blinding performance though, 0-1, here we go again, 0-2, is this Darlo or Northallerton Town, 0-3, half time, 3-0 down and we’re having a laugh, 0-4, cue the clown song, 0-5, we want 6 they sing, we want 1 we sing, we’re gonna win 6-5, time for the pub after waiting until the end in the forlorn hope that I’d see Darlo score for the first time in the 6 games I’d been to this season, Union Inn and the Brummie Torquay fan says well done lads you’re brilliant thanks for coming about 27 times, into town on the bus with a ticket which says merry Christmas, hmm, beers start flowing, conversation flowing, I’d rather be Darlo than any Premier League rubbish, this is real football, jaeger bombs £2, 2 drinks for 1, nice, early finish though as someone has another 340 miles to drive the next day, so it’s a pizza and a taxi to the hotel, up early feeling rough but not as rough as some, another fry up, on the road, making good time but keeping the speed down, I learned my lesson, coffee at Hopwood Park, halfway home, then it’s 20 miles of 50mph average speed checks for surely only 3 miles of actual roadworks, so annoying, end of roadworks, on to M18, foot down, what’s that blue light, oh for f*** sake, another 3 points and £60 fine, no speeding tickets in nearly 20 years of driving and I get 2 in 2 days, also get breathalyser this time, thankfully zero, rest of the journey much slower, home before dark, always knew Torquay would be a 6 pointer didn’t expect the 6 points to be on my driving licence, was it worth it, ‘course it was, Torquay away, love it!"
