enjoyed the game up till their last goal.
first half very entertaining game nothing to seperate the teams.
second half a very well taken goal for them even got a round of applause from the town end.
their third well what can i say scott has done enough this season to be allowed one cock up and that was tonights.
the fracas the ref bottled it and sent only jones off when a couple of others should have been off as well.
overall disappointed with the result but a good game

We never looked like getting back into it. In fact, we never do.

Here's a thought, a different manager may have made changes tonight after we went 2-1 down. Behan might have been taken off (he was doing nowt) before he got injured. Jones might have been taken off (ineffective 2nd half) and not be facing a ban.

We might have lost but at least we'd have tried to get back in the game.

I agree with chip, i thought the first half was really good, with both teams dominating at different stages and if anything i thought we had the better of it.

However although we had a couple of headed chances in the second half, which i think we should of done better from! I could only see one team winning, and can anyone tell me if Brown is still carrying an injury cos to me he still doesnt look anything like the player he was.

He was superb first half but barely had a kick in the second apart from one decent run within the first five minutes. 6.5 out of 10 for me...one of many players who only turned up for half the match again.

Yes he was quite good first half, but Brown before his injury last year would excite you everytime he got the ball, for the full match. I just dont think he looks fully fit and in the 2nd half today i can't remember him going passed the blonde haired left back once.

We did well in the first half but I thought Southampton shaded it. In the second half they sussed us out (as all the best sides do) and won comfortably. How great it must be to have a manager who can change things for the better at half time.

We were very good first half and awful second half.

A bit like Saturday really (we weren't awful at Huddersfield actually but we were worse) what's being said at half time?

bottom line is...if the team can only compete for 45 mins then there's only one place we are headed...League fu-cking two again. I blame the manager fairly and squarely - he does not, and can not, inspire his players or give them the belief to win games like last night. I alluded to this yesterday and I was proved right about it.
New manager, proper manager, is required to get the best out of this squad. Even thugh the squad isn't good enough to be top half, it's good enough to be clear of the bottom four. However that is if the players perform to their potential, which is now only happening for about 60% of the time and that will catch up with us shortly.
Sadly I believe a real struggle is on our hands now because there are players not linking up at all - the centre midfielders and strikers being the cases in point. Something will have to change and soon.
We are now certain to have given away all 24 points to the four big teams - I bet no other side in League One will do that (oh yes we will before anyone says different - the inferiority complex is there for all to see). The only way that will change is a manager who instils belief in the side. Turner is a waste of space in this regard.

there's something wrong somewhere. Colin West ran on the pitch to get the ball from one of their players to try and get things going again so you'd imagine there is a passion form the management team (West at the very least) yet everytime we go behind, I don't expect us to either equalise or get back in the lead.

And we STILL have yet to get a penalty this season (surely some sort of record) which suggests to me that we are relying on balls into the box from distance. 95% of the defenders in this division can deal with this tactic.

The problem seemed to be that we didn't change out tactics from the first half to the second. When playing into the wind the ball held up and we used this to our advantage in the first half. The second half we continuously lumped it up from back to front with the net result of dozens of Southampton goal kicks.
I though Brown was superb and would give him an 8 out of 10. I would like to see Boyd get more involved in the recent games.

In the good old days when we went behind we used to have a right go at teams. Now we seem to accept our fate and roll over and die.

I didn't think Brownie was superb at all. Only performing for half a game is something you won't get away with against teams like Southampton.

He didn't have a good second half because he hardly got the ball. As many have pointed out we appeared to give up once the second Southampton goal went in and reverted to long balls from deep. Totally cutting Brown out.

He's our most dangerous attacker and needs to be played upfront where he'll get the ball most. I'd like to think Turner will restore him to this position for the Carlisle game but unless Larkin recovers I'm not holding my breath.

First half great and Pools and Southampton were playing entertaining football, a different Southampton came out in the second half, a more cynical 'professional' Southampton, they'd adapted their style of play to an uglier but more effective style of play ... something that we are totally incapable of and it shows. That team is too lightweight in areas and too fancy for it's own good sometimes, spurning the simpler pass when that's what's needed.
The ref was a clown, especially second half when it appeared Southampton players were beyond reproach for anything.
