York 1 - Hartlepool 1
"If you kicked a Yorkshire bobby clap your hands".Even though we had to wait until the 90th minute we always knew an equalizer was coming.

Feb 6th 1988
Leyton Orient 0 - Pools 2
Brian Honour was in a class of his own that day

February 9th 1988
Sunderland 0 - Pools 1
A bit like Darlo winning the league in August Sunderland had the FL Trophy wone before a ball was kicked

February 10th 1990
Pools 5 - Stockport 0
Paul Bakers 20 yard bicycle kick goal

May 11th 1991
Pools 3 - Northampton 1
Despite going 1 down we always knew we were going to win & get promotion

January 2nd 1993
Pools 1 - Crystal Palce 0
The premiershits first season & they were the only premier team to lose that day so we'll always be the first team to knock a premier side out of the FA cup

September 12th 2003
Pools 8 - Grimsby 1

April 6th 2004
Pools 4 - Luton 3
Great game & great goal from Hugh

Live from the Square Kitchen, a large piece of Banoffe pie and a cup of tea, the obvious mistake is the promotion game against Northampton.
We scored first. Paul dalton.

Theres probably many more errors in my memory too.
They must have equalized & we had to win in thatcase, whichever way I remember they scored & you never felt that we wouldnt win it.
Anyway hows about someone adding to the list

I was at that game, texting a friend the score - the goals were going in quicker then I could text.

1-0 win at Shrewsbury which turned the tide and saved our arses from the Conference - we were out of the Football League in my opinion had we lost that night - we would have been four points behind Carlisle and five behind Scarborough, with us having played at least one more game than the other teams. With games running out, and we had to play the day after all the other teams because of something else taking place in Shrewsbury on the Bank Holiday Monday - the pressure on Pools was simply the most pressure any Hartlepool side has ever been under, prior to any other single game in the club's history.
The players and fans celebrated like we'd won the Cup - because we knew we'd given ourselves a CHANCE to stay up!!! That's how big a victory that was - the other great wins since then are all built on the back of surviving that season, and no other single victory ever gave the team a rope to cling to life, as that game did. We really really were going down if we lost that match. Our recent history would be nothing like it is if that had happened - we might not even have had a club - would IOR have even stayed with us if we had gone down?

Was that the game where Denny had a last minute penalty saved and baker slotted in the rebound?

Agree completely with that. Driving back felt the feeling was better even than the drive back from Hull after getting into the play-offs.

The remarkable thing about the goal was that a 37 year old playing in pain with a bad back beat everyone else to a missed penalty and put it in from a very narrow angle. He just wanted it more. A real Poolie hero that Paul Baker.

April 12th 1986 - The year of the 'good run'.

Pools 3 - Southend 2

I was mascot and got to meet and have my photo taken with Bobby Moore who was their manager at the time. A shrewd choice of game by my dad i think you will agree. I recall the result ended a bit of loss of form for us, though i think we still were in a good position at that point. What also lingers long in the memory is Jackie calling David Robinson a Ginger silly boy in the pre -match knock about! That season Chester were pretty much the best team in our division. When we played them at home ( 1-1 - mid week night game I believe but i might be wrong)it was one of the best matches I had seen. Still is actually, though i was 9 years old at the time.

We had our best strip ever that season as well.

Great Days Indeed.

That was my 12th birthday. One of the best birthday presents 'Pools have ever given me. It was like the Grimsby 8-1 game (another great day) I think in that I was amazed when the goals went in. FOUR...FIVE...then SIX etc.

The greatest present around my 17th birthday:

Saturday 14th April 2007
Wycombe Wanderers 0 Hartlepool United 1 (Hartlepool promoted and I see it happen for the first time - I was only a year old in 91, promotion after Scunthorpe thrashing us 4-0 was a bad day).

There have been many great days, and to name a few:

Saturday 9th August 2003
Peterborough United 3 Hartlepool United 4 (One of the greatest 'Pools comebacks ever, up there with Darlo in '97)

Friday 12th September 2003
Hartlepool United 8 Grimsby Town 1

Saturday 6th March 2004
Colchester United 1 Hartlepool United 2 (Istead scoring from the dead ball line, everybody goes beserk in the tightly packed away end at Layer Road).

Saturday 24th April 2004
Rushden and Diamonds 0 Hartlepool United 2 (Boydie makes a mockery of Billy Turley for the second)

Saturday 8th May 2004
Swindon Town 1 Hartlepool United 1 (I get soaked in the rain, Boydie fires us to the Division Two play offs for the first time, the greatest celebration of a draw ever)

Tuesday 17th May 2005
Tranmere Rovers 2 Hartlepool United 0 (agg 2-2 aet, 'Pools win 6-5 on pens, arguably the greatest day in our history)

Saturday 8th March 2008
Hartlepool United 4 Gillingham 0 (effectively relegated the Gills!)

Tuesday 26th August 2008
Hartlepool United 3 West Bromwich Albion 1 (aet) (How did Tony Mowbray become Celtic boss after that?)

Saturday 3rd January 2009
Hartlepool United 2 Stoke City 0 (Foley!)

Wednesday 12th August 2009
Coventry City 0 Hartlepool United 1 (Surely one of the greatest giantkillings, Boyd wins it for us with something out of nowhere)

Saturday 22nd August 2009
Gillingham 0 Hartlepool United 1 (A historic result at the Priestfield, what a goal by Brown)

17th April 1999 Pools 3 - 0 win over Scarborough............. Chris Freestone [2] and if memory serves me right didn't Baker score. I remember dancing to never say die on the mill house terrace with Bresslaw and a few portly cricketers! The crowd was never 5,089 - it was a lock out.

I remeber that game - delayed kick off and loads of people shifted from the Cyril Knowles stand to the Millhouse Seats because they had let too many in. In those days you didn't get a ticket on entry - bet there was loads of fiddling going on. Goffy really got the north east behind Pools for that game clappp he talked about nothing else on his morning show for weeks before. I remember the town end being packed and dare I say loud. Cracking Atmosphere.....!

I remember seeing that game when it was featured on ITV's Nationwide Football League Extra that was on at a ridiculous time like 1.45am on a Tuesday. We had to tape it on our old VCR and watch it in the evening.

I think during every season on the home game that falls closest to August 22nd we should have a minutes applause to honour our historic win at Gillingham. In future the starting eleven could even be presented with medals on the pitch.

Loads I can think of that have already been said on here, two of the games that stick in my mind wernt great days but I cant put my finger on when they were.

Doncaster V Pools 2-2, when they were awful and people were beating them 7,8 nil. we were loosing 2-0 until about the last 10minutes then cullen scored 2 (i think)

Scunthorpe V Pools, not sure on the score but Baker broke his leg and people were snapping the chairs in away end.

Dicky Lucas netted, both of our goals were definitely in the last 10 minutes after the Donny fans pre-arranged "walkout" in protest at their chairman (Richardson?) who'd tried to burn their stand down for the insurance money. Be about '95ish at a guess.

It was Richardson as they had "Richardson out" painted on the stands, reason I remember as thats my surname.

Regardless of how we got the draw I don't think getting a point against a Doncaster team as bad as that one should be considered a 'great day'

We got back from Donny in just under an hour cos England were kicking off at about half five- does that make it a great day?

Doncaster V Pools 2-2, when they were awful and people were beating them 7,8 nil. we were loosing 2-0 until about the last 10minutes then cullen scored 2 (i think)

Dicky Lucas netted, both of our goals were definitely in the last 10 minutes after the Donny fans pre-arranged "walkout" in protest at their chairman (Richardson?) who'd tried to burn their stand down for the insurance money. Be about '95ish at a guess.

Cullen and Lucas scored that day 2 goals in last 6-7 minutes, reason I remember a mate turn round and walked out at 2-0 down and about 20 minutes left saying if we get anything from this I'll show my A*** on the stage of the corner flag next week. He kept his word.

It depends, who were they playing and what were they playing for, where did you watch it and did anything happen in the half hour or so that you missed? Thanks in advance

Darlo away has to be the best day in Pools fans history.

We were jolly green giants walking the Earth - with guns!

I seem to recall that they were playing Italy in the last group game in the World Cup qualifying, and drew 0-0 to get the point they needed for qualifying.

We didn't miss half an hour, we were back just as it kicked off. Watched it at my mates flat in Raby Road.

We joined in the Donny fans protests and left 10 minutes from the end cos Pools looked like they wouldn't score even if they'd been Mr Fireball on his dating websites so we missed Pools goals. :uhoh:

I'd say it was a good day but not a great day. If you'd have seen the two Pools goals then this would have helped your case. Please be careful when driving at high speeds in future too.

I concur that seeing the Pools goals would've helped.

With regards the driving, it's ok cos it was in the olden days and I was stoned. Everybody knows that you can drive well fast and never crash if you're stoned.

I regularly used to "ton it" on the motorways, especially from places like Exeter and Plymouth. You'd end up being banned ten times over these days if you did what I used to do.

It was ton plus all the way home that day. I was driving a mate's mother's car so had to thrash it- the lad whose mam's car it was had a learner licence and was gonna drive, but he only got as far as Wolviston when I had to take over cos he was still tripping from the night before and wanted a kip in the back.
