Something else I remembered about yesterday.

About 3 minutes into injury time, we were attacking, free kick I think.

Anyway Flinders started to come forward out of his area, we were screaming at him to get into the oppositions box, last chance etc... He looked at turner, turner told him to stay where he was, Flinders again came forward, looking at turner etc.... come on boss i'm 6ft odd and I know where the fooking goal is (unlike our piss poor strikers).

Again turner gave him a meanful look and flinders stayed put banghead

That will have been the free kick I was referring to. If the attack had failed and flinders was caught in no mans land then it would hardly have mattered.

The ref blew his whistle seconds later.

Austin - One player who can hold his head up high.

That may well be true - but you don't have to be good in the air to cause problems, someone would have to mark him which could free up space.... Flinders should of either been in the box or taking the free kick....

I'm not sure why Hartley gets stick.

He's as honest as the days long and has been a pretty consistent performer, he's not Roberto Carlos but he's doing a decent job, he's even started getting forward more.

Solid defender but some of his distribution is woeful. Hopefully he can work on it a bit, being in a new position where he needs to cross the ball more isn't something that's natural to him at the moment and it shows.

Agreed. The long range shots were belters but apart from that I thought he had a bad game. Its his passing which mainly lets him down and his positioning is suspect at times but hopefully this will improve. He still looks a competent centre half being played out of position unfortunately.

After every game i say the same thing about Hartley. When he plays it simple and gives the ball to the players who can create he is steady away solid full back. Its when he tries to over play and knock long balls that he starts to look suspect. He is still learning though and you would hope Turner/Collins or others will just have a word with him to keep it simple.
