I hope Steve Evans gets it. Great story - he blatantly didn't expect it to happen. Thing is, he'll step into the next vacant lower-Premiership team manager position

You reckon someone will employ Southgate, he's nearly as bad as Tony Adams...

i couldnt think of a premier league team employing southgate after the mess he made of a pretty decent boro side when he took over.

They'd just finished 8th and we're in the uefa cup final, 3 years later there in the champo.

Well, I can't say it wasn't coming. I didn't rate Southgate at all. But, the board at Middlesbrough obviously believe that they should be higher than where they are because any other chairman would be happy with a manager that's taken their club to fourth in the League - but not Middlesbrough.

I never join in the bashing of you POK- it's not nice and it is much easier just to set your posts to ignore (as I have done from within two weeks of your arrival). BUT I just made the mistake of looking at the board not logged in.

PLEASE, PLEASE think before typing. Just a little.

'Any other chairman would be happy for their team to be 4th' - really? When you were established in the premiership and winning things, when you have had excellent support from the chairman?

Would IOR be happy with a manager who relegated us and then had us 4th in League Two?

If the constant stream of garbage emerging from your keyboard is thoughtless- then please think before you type.

If it is just student attention seeking to pass time then find somewhere else to do it. There are probably hundreds of student message boards full of discussion on key topics of interest: politics, goatees, wanking, that sort of stuff.

Look at the bigger picture though kent, it's not about this season.

the only mistake gibson has made in this is that he didn't sack him in the summer, it only raises eyebrows cos he has done it now.

Well, it should be about this season. As a chairman, you live or die by your decisions.

The interesting thing now will be to see where Middlesbrough finish in May. Then we'll know whether it might have been right or wrong.

It's only about this season cos like i said he waited too long, he should have went in the summer when he got them relegated.

Steve Gibson is not usually a chairman who sacks managers. Southgate must be the first.

Fair play to Gibson.

He has stuck by, and funded, a young manager who quite clearly couldn't manage his own bowel movements.

Misplaced loyalty, methinks... clappp

I, for one, will not find it interesting where Middlesbrough will finish. This is a Hartlepool message board.

Steve Gibson has given him long enough, he has about as much tactical knowledge as Tony Adam, the boro team plays dire football and from the looks of things he hasnt assembled a very good championship team. Gibson had to act in the summer but missed a trick and so needed to act now. Its nearly the biggining of Novemeber that gives the board about 3 weeks to find a new manager then a month to have a look at his new squad, the month of December to sort out his team and who he wants to keep at the same time sending his scouts out to find new players to buy in January.

But Gibson has decided that Southgate is not the man to win the title.

And as pde says, there are times when you need to think before you press the keys. Which I have said before.

99% of managers are probably sacked DURING a season. That's due to chairmen /boards not being happy with the current situation that club are in.

Gibson give him time to turn it around this season, and although I find the timing surprising, Thier win last night with Newcastle and WBA losing put them 1 point off top.Thats the only reason it surprises me that he did it now. The fact he has sacked him doesnt surprise me.

But technically they could appoint a new manager who allows them to slip out of the play-offs come May.

Then some people might wonder: could it have been a different story if Gibson had allowed Southgate until the end of the season?

I dont understand while people use, "he is a student" as a defence for him. I was a student not so long ago, and didnt make thoughtless comments, but then again look how I turned out I do it now.

The student bit is irrelevant, I dont have a personnal problem with POK, having actually met him.

I'm not against him or for him, I post my opinions, which he does, some I have a go at, as i have a go at other posters, even administrators. I just believe EVERYONE should actually think prior to putting some posts on here, and that probably includes me, in some other posters opinions. It is after all what a message board is about.

And although a Pools message board, other football issues bring some debate so including Boro, is ok with me, IMHO. I mean I mentioned Liverpool last night and not got shot down.

If you dont want to read about another football issue then dont and dont reply by having pops simply because of who posted the original post. And I know I have pops but it with what wrote , not because of the poster.

Some off topics dont interest me, so once seen original post I just move on to next post.

And it silly posts like that which contribute nothing to a discussion in any way shape or form.

It actually makes 99% of POK's post read like he belongs to MENSA, rolfl rolfl compared to a statement like that.

Southgate was always on a hiding to nothing. Boro had a huge wage bill when he took over and a squad of pretty average players. He was a very cheap option for Gibson and had the respect of the players having just made the move upstairs, so could slash the squad of the big earners without losing the dressing room.

He comes across as a top bloke and the fans were always going to give him plenty of time to bed in and, even despite relegation, were general willing to let him have a crack at getting back up.

A five year contract, in the Premiership, as your first job, seemed absolute madness from Gibson at the time but I bet his agenda was to get Southgate, on a shoestring budget, to try and keep Boro competitive whilst quietly doing a hatchet job behind the scenes and try to keep the fans happy at the same time. An almost impossible job!

That said, fook Boro, who cares!!!!!! rolf

I noticed Gibson barely made the top 50 rich list of footy chairmen/directors/investors. I reckon they can't compete financially in the premier league any more, and in all truth will struggle to out-compete the rest of the Championship clubs after next year if they fail to go straight back up. I can see another "Leeds, Norwich, Southampton, Sheff Wed.....etc etc ...insert name here as appropriate" happening to them in the next 2 years if they aren't careful who they appoint next

I noticed Gibson barely made the top 50 rich list of footy chairmen/directors/investors. I reckon they can't compete financially in the premier league any more, and in all truth will struggle to out-compete the rest of the Championship clubs after next year if they fail to go straight back up. I can see another "Leeds, Norwich, Southampton, Sheff Wed.....etc etc ...insert name here as appropriate" happening to them in the next 2 years if they aren't careful who they appoint next

good i hope they slide all the way to oblivion

Well, it should be about this season. As a chairman, you live or die by your decisions.

The interesting thing now will be to see where Middlesbrough finish in May. Then we'll know whether it might have been right or wrong.
