of the Mail 'Family Announcements'?

According to todays we have a Horden Howden and a Easington Colliery Patterson in the Deaths columns. Looks like apologies will be needed to be made to the families of Elsie Howden and Debra Patterson after this. Surely someone ahould be checking things like this, they charge enough for putting them in.

They normally get proof read but human error dictates mistakes can be made.

A person who i worked with there about 2 years ago was leaving, they framed her best mistake in the deaths column for her as a leaving present...

Supposed to read "Sadly missed...."

Unfortunatly read "Sadly pissed..."

I thought it was a joke but it went in the mail like that.

I can understand a mistake being made, but the same type of error twice in one day, ie the place where the deceased is from, instead of their first name? I'm fairly certain I noticed another similar one last week.

I was told about that one from someone who worked at the Mail years ago. The deceased person in question was also believed to have had a drink problem.

Correct mr hunt, it was possibly the worst mistake you could have made at the time.

Funny though looking back now.

It happened in 1982, can't remember the exact date. I remember cos we were on strike over the introduction of "new technology". Out went the typewriters and in came BBC computers. The Editor at the time, Peter Chislett, had to pay a personal visit to the family to apologise.

And as an aside, Peter Chislett's wife wrote a best-selling book, divorced him, and has gone on to write many best-sellers ... the most recent being The Other Boleyn Girl. No typos in that.

About 5 years ago The Mail had the front page headline "JOBS BLOW".

The other classic from an early '80s back-page Binns ad read thus:

Clearance Event - Mens Underwear (slightly soiled)

You really couldn't make it up...

Of course, these days, we have the side-splitting musings of 'Grandad's Groans'

I have honestly seen funnier car crashes involving multiple fatalities violin

That's probably why they had Peterlee Davies in last nights notices, I kid you not.
