I know this isnt Pools related but its an interesting story re todays game between Gateshead and Hayes&Yeading.

(taken from BBC news site)

Gateshead's game with Hayes & Yeading was abandoned in the second half after midfielder Martin Brittain had to be taken to hospital by ambulance.

The 24-year-old suffered a suspected broken leg after 75 minutes and the game was suspended for around half an hour while he received treatment.

The two sides had been playing out a 0-0 draw before the game was abandoned.

Gateshead's Christopher Ascherl was sent off after the break for an unfair challenge on Scott P Fitzgerald.

Hayes & Yeading manager Gary Haylock told BBC London 94.9:

"The referee made the decision to carry on the game and to be honest the Gateshead players refused to come out of the dressing room.

"They were understandably upset by their team-mate's injury but the game was not called off because of the serious injury, it was called off because the Gateshead players refused to come out of the dressing room.

"I would have a huge problem with doing this again because we're a part-time club. We've got players who are working, some players might not be able to make the game.

"To me there can be only one decision, that we're awarded the points, we win the game and move on."

I sympathise with the hayes manager to be honest. Surely gatesheads players should have continued playing sctatchinghead

Gateshead have no cause for complaint if the other side are awarded the points (usually a three goal win is awarded I think). If there had been a fatality then fair enough, but I can't see how a broken leg could upset them so much that they couldn't play on - it's a fact of life that it happens in football and the rest have to get on with it

I've never heard of a game abandoned due to a broken leg, its not as if he's seriously ill or the injury is life threatening.

I agree with the Hayes boss, they should get the points as the ref was ready to continue the game, effectively the Gateshead players have forfeited the game by not going back out.

What was the score at the time?

Hopefully Hayes get the points, I see Gateshead were down to 10 men anyway and guessing were behind.

Can I also ask why it takes 30minutes to stretcher someone off the pitch? I know its a bad injury but what the hell are they doing for 30minutes??

Its a pity the player did not fall straight into a hospital and the game could have just continued without delay

But imagine with the 'Hooraay' if he actually scored and jumped up onto the perimeter fencing and then sneezed which made him fall onto his funny bone....Air Ambulance....Fire Brigade....RNLI....PDSA....POK....Bobbies....RAC....etc etc!!!! confised

And after all that....The Floodlights fail....The Bat Phone to Obamha and the G8 would have been imperative!!!!

I think it's premature to suggest that Hayes are awarded the points without knowing the circumstances. There is always the possibility that their manager is a one-eyed cockerney chancer who deserves to be force fed piss through a tube.

By the way, whatever happened to Tom Haigh, I thought he was meant to be a bit of a good prospect?

Are you suggesting that there was a fake broken leg bought from a joke shop involved in this?

Of course he isn't. This isn't Rugby Union.

reading a report of the game
i think the severity of the injury
is greater then just a broken leg
to inject the boy with morphine
for his pain would suggest
medical complications that justified
not moving him for such
a long time
my good wishes to the boy
for a speedy recovery
and hopefully a return to the game
we all love
