A friend of mine has a place in Portugal, I'll give him a shout and see who he uses. Will let you know ASAP.

Depends where you want to fly from and to.

We go to the apartment right on the Spain / Portugal border so fly to Faro (45 minute drive from there). Until this summer you could go FlyGlobespan from Teesside, very cheap and very good. But they stopped them this summer. The options now are Easyjet from Newcastle (used it, not as good as FG cos you can't book a specific seat in advance) which is usually cheap enough or Jet2 from Leeds Bradford (not used it but the in-laws have and reckon it's good).

Apart from these you're looking at driving further afield from Hartlepool so it takes chunks out of your time in the sun and won't really save you any money.

Hopefully next year there'll be an option from Teesside again.

With Easyjet as long as you're in boarding group A by checking in early enough you won't have any problems getting seats together. We were even in group B when I came back from Spain last week and still got seats together, they normally do what they can to accomodate you but being in A virtually ensures it.

Skyscanner is definitely the best for checking prices, even if you have to fly from Manchester, Liverpool or East Midlands, you're only looking at a couple of hours drive.

You're right enough about Easyjet, but the good thing about Globespan was that it was only about £25 to book specific seats in advance, e.g. the front row with loads of leg room.

Personally I'd rather pay a bit more for the flight than drive miles to the airport, but depends on your priorities I suppose.

You're only on the plne 2 1/2hrs. The best way to get cheap flights is to be flexible about when you're going to travel and scroll through, say, easyjet until you get the lowest priced flight. I got to Carcassone and back for the cost of the taxes. Careful when booking online though cos there's optional extras which are defaulted in rather than out so e.g. you might end up with travel insurance you don't need.

And if you're flying from East Midlands give me a shout and you can park at my house, its three miles from EMA. I might even give you a lift if you're not Dibble.
