...chunter watchers are flocking to Hartlepool at sightings of the 'Gricer' ( latin name; Chunterus, whinus whingeus) emerges from its summer hibernation to forage for faults and perceived wrongs which form its staple diet. Its call of ..'Turner Out' reverberates round the roosting terraces as they Gricers vent their spleen and go through the ritual of showing their true colours. A local chunter watcher described how the gricers are normally passive creatures but break into a frenzy when not able to get their weekly dose of entertaining victories, which is all that subdues their demanding, attention seeking chunters
'They were giving an all display on here last night' one watcher said, 'frothing at the beak some of em' ...'a never changing routine' said another........'It's as if they're just waiting for summat to go wrong, you'd almost think they were human sometimes'....

Scunthorpe Lost 3-2
Leeds utd Lost 1-0
Sheff Wed Lost 2-0
Charlton Lost 2-0
Bristol Rovers Lost 2-1
Norwich City Lost 2-0

I cant imagine what these 'Gricers' are moaning about. They should take after Snowy and just sit content in the knowledge that at least Pools are consistent.

I can't help but think these defeats couldn't be avoided. 7 years ago, the likes of Southampton, Leeds and Charlton were in the PREMIER LEAGUE! 6 years ago Norwich and Sheff Wed were in the Championship and just last year, Burnely won promotion to the PREMIER LEAGUE!

We're playing a much better quality of opponent in League One now than when we've been at this level in the past.

We have NEVER done any of those things before, not in the dark days of the early 60s, not in the wretched season of 93/94. It's unprecedently poor home results. Now I was around in 93/94 and can confirm we were a whole shitload worse then than we have been this season., but that's little consolation, losses are losses.

On the bright side we do have an easier-looking run of home games coming up, and our away form has held up very well. No panic yet.

Trying to find a little consolation for that run of home defeats, we never 'achieved' it in the dark days of the 60's because those seasons were all played in the fourth division.

I expressed my opinion weeks ago as you well know and it was wait till the end of September, it's not easy, but it's called giving the bloke a chance.. As for 'perched on the fence' ....you are the one dissing Turner and choreographing the chuntering, while getting the vapours if anyone so much as hints you want him out, you're back and forward more times than a windscreen wiper.
Smug, no, patient.
p.s. ... continually telling Mad John he's brilliant doesn't rub off.

Look, you can ask Turner and the staff to ritually disembowel themselves in the centre circle as an act of mass contrition before the next home game, for the results, as far as I'm concerned, I can't do nothing about it. If people want to criticise, criticise away, that's their prerogative.
However, I can question any criticism and will if I think it's unreasonable. All I'm saying is that if the results are crap by October I'll be lighting a torch myself, I've done it in the past and will do it in the future, but for now I'll just keep my powder dry.

Leaving out cup games and play off games and just concentrating on games played in this league Turner has been in charge of 31. Just as a matter of coincidence Martin Scott was in charge of 31 league games, the last one of the play off season and 30 in 2005-06.
Scott won 8, drew 10 and lost 13.
Turner won 7 drew 7 and lost 17.
Not a lot of difference I would say.
Scott actually amassed more points than Turner in the same number of third tier matches.

This can be dressed up to suit either camp, but you can't argue with the facts, but perhaps you can site circumstances depending in which camp you lay.

Turners record at this level is woeful, nobody can refute that.

But Pools are in Turners blood (along with a bit of Sheffield Wednesday obviously)

Funny isn't it, Turner has the worst record of any manager under IOR at this level and yet they seem to back his every move.
It's their money and they will do as they see fit. That sentiment also applies to the rest of us.
28 points from 31 games is dreadful. Scotty got 34 from his 31 games and he is considered as one of the worst, if not the worst, managers we have had in our recent history.
So why are we so tolerant of Mr Turner. sctatchinghead sctatchinghead sctatchinghead

Most of, if not all of the players he has signed will be on at least one years contract. If he doesn't start getting results which will keep us out of the bottom four at what point do we say enough is enough? How long did Norwich give Gunn? How many players had Gunn signed?
Turners record in this division is absolutely abysmal. He has been at Wednesday, Stockport and now us.
I really do hope he turns it round, but I'm not holding my breath.
We never got to the end of August before the knives were out for Scott. Turner has had 31 league games with us, God knows how many with Wednesday and Stockport and he is still struggling.
I am behind him because he is in the seat, but that doesn't stop me being a realist. If he fails he just continues as Director of Sport.
If he is as much a Poolie as people think then he ought to hold up his hands and say that he and West are not the answer, then step aside to allow a new man the time to put it right.
This of course is only my opinion, given freely because I care about the club and where we are heading. I am basically worried to death at the moment. I really am.

Ah, so its your fault, for pouring fuel on the fire.

Just for once MadJohn, I think your brilliant statistics have let you down. Comparing the results so far this season, and then adding last seasons joke to it, and then comparing it to any other season, is utterly useless, unless you put some meat on the bones.

Tell us please, the last time we have played such opposition, in a run at home at the start of any season. I suspect, but dont know, that the answer is never.

Therefore just for once, I think your stats are rubbish. bbolt

I agree that its difficult to compare seasons as there are obviously many many variables.
I would say though that the standard of opposition is higher but likewise the standard of player at our club has also increased comparitively so I dont see that it is so wrong to compare a managers performance with previous seasons. Obviously it wont be an exact science and merely acts as an indication of how well CT is doing.
I dont think that CT falls quite into the same league as those managers who are synonimous with our bad, bad, bad years but he is certainly comparable. Viv Busby, Mcreery, Houchen, Tait, Scott may well have struggled badly (with similar results as what CT is currently getting) but they were typically up against a lesser standard of team. Our teams investment and professionalism however will have rocketed since the days of the aforementioned managers so from that perspective I dont think it is wrong for fans to think of CT as a poor manager. He has not enjoyed success at his other clubs either so it doesnt bode well unfortunately.

or maybe just maybe he thinks he is capable of doing what he did 1st time round!?!?!

If after another 8 or so games it's going horribly then maybe he will turn round and agree to bring in a manager.

Mr B, I do not know what Turner thinks and nor do you but it is obvious he thinks he can do the job.
His record last time was in the bottom division.
I am highlighting his record in this division.
It is not very good.

As Chip says, we have to wait and see.
