And how are we going to select the candidates ?

We also need some tactics drawing up.

I agree with that completely. How newsworthy do you think this is then Mr C?

It is very very news worthy please dont forget the part the Mail played in Poolie Pride it is your local paper use it. Foreget where the paper is printed look at it for what i can do for YOU..... REMEMBER POOLIE PRIDE.

when you are ready I will arange a meeting with Joy Yates our editor she would like (I am sure) to be aware of uyour plans As soon as you can that way the ball starts roilling as soon as you can get it to roll (Will help you get more people to stand). I would say that for every 5 to 6 who stand 1 could get in. Then again Look at the Mayor......

Roll that ball ... let the lottery begin

Good Luck.

Frank

I think if we have enough contenders then we have a good chance of getting a group on the council. We stand forentirely local issues with no alligence to any national political party. I think if we can get a ball rolling and create a critical mass then we are a very powerful force.

Frank mentioned the Poolie Pride banner - that has some equity and stands for something in the town. Yes it was about a football CD but the end result was to the benefit of local kids and thats something nobody can put down.

We need 17 names and we are well short. It has been suggested that I write a story for MB next issue explaining the plan. It is a good opportunity to canvass potential candidates. That said, the Mail was very supportive last time and I'm sure they would be again - local issues you see.

I think we should do this and we need people to put their heads over the parapet, to date we have four names. Any more ?

The more I think about it the surer I am that this can work. Two things convince me:

When 'H'Angus' was put up for Mayor I said to the then our lass that I thought he would win because the mentality of the town (no derogatory intent) was such that anything that publicised the town would get the people behind it. It also appealed to the silly sense of humour and the disregard of national politicians. When we took on the CD project I was convinced it would work for the first reason, Hartlepool people like things that publicise the town.

This would get national TV exposure and I hazard a guess would start a chain reaction. The fact is that we only have a few weeks to get the ball rolling or forget it. In order to get a publicity machine moving we need to be launching in February with a complete manifesto and a list of candidates. The problem is that we have a serious lack of the latter.
