So that he can score winning goals against Championship sides away from home in the Carling Cup, and put in a cracking performace plus score against a Premiership side in the same cup? sctatchinghead

80k was the price we bought him for I think, good deal in my opinion, obviously boyd is no kaka but hartlepool are no Real Madrid, your point being? sctatchinghead

And £80k is only a small fraction of what Newcastle are planning on paying for James Brown. bbolt

And with that goal against Coventry he has earned his money back

poolie 95, if you were the manager and had the chance to buy him back for £80k would you have done? If not why?

yeah and then his price would have went up, we can get him fit here. We got him cheap with the goal at Coventry he has earned basically his transfer money back, so whats the problem.

Brown...........Not fit for start of season

Boyd ...........bought at end of last season

Behan......... brought in after Boyd

Larkin..........brought in after Boyd

Greulich.......brought in after Boyd

Foley..........Loaned out to Barrow

Mackay.......Loaned out to Gateshead

Maybe , and this may be a little silly to suggest, but with 4 months of the close season after we purchased Boyd there was a possibility that the management team thought he would be fit for the start of the season. Remote chance do you not think. Or do you never sign a player who has been unfit at some time during his career.

So we wait till January and he hadn't played for Orient, do we still buy him.

Another remote possibility maybe when we bought him he was fit and 4 months of the close season possibily over indulging in to much alcohol while on holiday has caused his unfitness. Or he may have picked up a slight knock whilst doing pre season.

He did after all i presume pass a medical prior to signing which would indicate a fairly reasonable standard of fitness. Which says to me 4 months ago he was ok.

As far as i understand the Deal was all laid out in the January window but since he had signed his extention we had to wait till the summer, Don't shoot the messenger though

I was told by a good source that he would have signed in January but Hodcroft wouldn't pay the fee Orient wanted.
It only eventually happened when Orient dropped the price.
Difference was about £10K I believe

Even if fit it is highly unlikely that he would have got many games for Orient, going by his previous few months there. Most likely used as a sub which would not have neccessarily proven his fitness.
Anyway, we have him now and I reckon that's a good thing. Difficult to know how much we paid for him or what his terms are.

Boydy is someone who very much relies on his touch and little subtle things, he has started two competitive games since February.

It's hardly rocket science is it? Fit and match fit are two very different things, he is fit. Suggesting he'd be better off at a club who knew he was leaving until January is beyond radged.
