I think that among all the members of the US Senate and the Congress of the United States he's been pre-eminent. He's been staunch and honest and open and very able to express his views to the American people.

My own hope is that his deep commitment to the comprehensive health plan in America will now be honoured by his contemporaries, by his peers, in the near future.

I don't think there will be any condolence cards coming from the family of Mary Jo Kopechne. I'm not usually one for remembering details of incidents from so long ago, but Chappaquiddick certainly sticks in my mind.
