To be fair to Arno he is a Poolie really and I will never forget him shouting in celebration at Hull in front of the away end "bring on fookin Darlo" when we sneaked into the play offs on the last day in 2000.

Also what a game that was, one of my best days out watching Pools - my old man didn't come because he was too nervous and after watching Pools for 40 years ish at that point was expecting the worst and couldn't take the pressure. Too this day he is gutted. The other scores rippling through on radio throughout that match leading to cheers as if we had scored was brilliant

i remember being 3-0 up, sat on the floor at the back of the 'stand' (if you can call it that) biting my nails nearly crying because i couldn't take it. one of the most horrible feelings followed by one of utter unbridled joy. I was a very proud man that day

Gotta agree, Hull away in the 99/00 season was unreal.
One of my first and best away days.

I've never felt so proud as the Bristol City away play-off game.

For quarter of an hour, I was in a surreal world which involved gravitational-loads of man-love for a Sweaty.

The chant " ten men and were still three up" - cant remember the score but it was something along those lines. The effin Hull retards chuckin bottles from the raised terraces on the left at us, and that copper stood chating to the main Ull henchman as he directed his young chavy minions to bottle us.

Ah a glorious day.

It finished 3-0, no wonder Strodder was sent of when we had Fraser Stretton in charge

IMHO Fraser Stretton is my least favourite referee of all time, even more so than that damned bounder at cardiff.

Arnison also scored a cracking goal, in the Cheltenham play off semi.
Which eventually got us the pens

That was a brilliant day and the best away day I have been to, apart from on the way home was in a minibus parked at the B&Q. This little torag rammed our minibus at the front and loads of idiots bricked our bus smashing in every window apart from the windscreen, was very scarey stuff.

The ride home was freezing so we all just got drunk.

I do recall legging it to the car park at B&Q too. running and trying to take my shirt off was hard stuffs.

I also remember being kept well behind so the Hull folk could gather around the gates after the final whistle had gone. think it was about 20-30 mins of being held behind.

Most of the Hull fans I come across miss games at Hartlepool & Darlington and would prefer to be playing Pools than the likes of Wigan, Fulham & Bolton. That wont be long then. Cheerio EPL for Hull this season.

We saw a bit of chew but not at the levels you lot are on about.

I remember walking back to the car some Hull rarf comes strutting across the road about 10 or 15 yards behind us brandishing a knife at a big group of Pools fans who took offence to it and chased him off down the road. Dunno if they caught him or not.

PS. What the bolox is the EPL? sctatchinghead

We were warned by a bobby from Cleveland police about staying on the main road towards the ground as a few Poolies had been given a bit of a kicking. After the match as we walked to the B&Q car park it seemed like all of the Hull rarfs had congregated on the other side of the dual carriageway and some numpty threw one of their shoes at us which landed just in front of us. We were walking next to a Hull supporter who advised us to get to our car as quick as possible, I didn't know if it was a threat or a warning at first, I replied 'you always get some idiots' then he said something like 'we seem to have more than our fair share though it is the same last home game every season'

As soon as we got to the car I just drove as fast as I could until I got to the motorway

It depended on which way you turned when you got up the road from the ground.
We turned right with some of you lot. Not sure about the shoe but the bricks started coming over from outside that lovely pub (the silver something or other?). The police looked scared and wouldnt escort us any further, just said good luck, I'd go fast if I were you.
There were four of us. We were planning to go much further than B&Q but the Hull fans were on the rampage. We dashed inside B&Q and walked to the other end, stood by some long handled tools just in case. On the way in we saw a minibus trying to drive out but getting surrounded and presumed it was Pools fans who'd chosen the wrong side of the ground as well.
We were staying in Hull that night as one of us lived there - so he phoned a Hull supporting mate who drove down still in his Hull top and got us the fuck out of there.
The greatest away match ever for me, followed by moments of scariness and thoughts our heads were really going to get kicked all over the shop, followed by a lot of celebratory alcohol.

I went to Uni in Hull and know the place quite well. We parked the other way from The Silver Cod. It seemed the most sensible option.

My mate went to Uni in Hull as well. We were attempting to walk to his house about ten minutes past B&Q.
In retrospect it was a bad decision, especially after all the goading and wild celebrating from the Pools fans.
(Not sure what this all has to do with Paul Arnison)

The link was based on my reference to Arno being a Poolie at heart despite him now playing for Darlo as per the original post laughing at him - I referred to his celebrations at the end of that Hull game screaming at the away fans "bring on fookin Darlo"

It was like being in a trench behind the goal with the supermarket at your back. I remember 2 things. All the bottles thrown at us with the full blessing of plod refred and the stewards and a Poolie getting chucked out for hurling one back and then being let back in for his own safety.

I think it purely depended on where you parked. We were lucky with where we parked and managed to get straight back to the car relatively hassle free.

I remember us walking to the ground and we decided not to speak until we got to the ground for obvious reasons. We all had our colours hidden yet still got threatened for being f*** monkey hanging scum.

When we went to the KC stadium, some arseholes tried to get on the bus afterwards. There were a lot of families on the coach that day. The word unnecessary sprung to mind.
