I know this thread has prob been on before but i need to hear from people who have distinct memories of their first match - maybe it was an away game, cup game, significant game etc etc etc , maybe they were older than your average 8 year old (guess there)

PM please and I'll be in touch

v Exeter City 1963 1 - 1 draw. Sat in the old wooden stand. Not very good game, really. Will be going to Exeter away game in October.

Gillingham at home i think circa 1995, houchen and allon sent off i think and one guy for them, i might be wrong there though.

Boring 1-1 draw but the scuffle and the sendings off made it interesting.

I've also scored a penalty at pools on boxing day, that may have been either 94/95/96.

Home to Derby County in FA Cup 1st round 1983 or 84.

Won 2-1 and they had Kenny Burns and their manager was Arthur Cox.

It was Brentford at home in the 67/68 promotion season which we won 2-0. I was 9 year old at the time and I think it was 2/6 to get in. Beyond that I can't remember much except John Sheridan controlling the midfield.

I have no idea what my first game was - all I know is that it will have been in the early 70's with the likes of Bircumshaw, Goad, et al playing for Pools. My Dad dragged me along and for the first few games I thought it was all as dull as dishwater so I played tiggy on the Mill House terrace instead. Even though the games were inevitably drab and culminated in defeat, gradually I began to take interest. The rest, as they say, is history...

how true, we used to go from school in the late sixties and did spend more time playing tiggy than watching the match...we had to avoid the old man and his mates because he banned us from going as it wasn't for kids  ....if he saw you you were in trouble, such an enlightened parent.

sounds like my earliest experiences as well Mr Mars!!! I started to remember the games around 74/75 period, the one that sticks in my mind the most was Pools being on Shoot against Workington Reds, we won 3-0. I'm sure we had a sky blue kit that season as well. Me and my mates at West View went cos Kenneth Wolstenholme was commentator for Tyne Tees and we all wanted his autograph!!!
He used to walk around the pitch before taking up his position in the commentary box, so he could sign the autographs. He signed his name for me at the Rink End!!!
The first match I went to by myself was v Bradford in 76, we lost 1-0. After that I never went with adults to home matches, only my mates.

My first game was at home to Swindon in September 1984..........think it was 2-2 with John Brownlee scoring and maybe Lou Macari was playing for Swindon.

I was with my Dad sat in the middle right at the back of the Millhouse Seats! Happy Days! clappp

Oh and I was 8 years old!!!

There's two which stick in my mind. The testimonial against Notts Forest when I sat in the old wooden stand on the clarence road side, think it finished 2-2 and the f.a.cup game against terry venebales crystal palace round about the same time which we won 2-1.

notsure which as it was so cold, i think it was mansfield, although who it was we were playin, in fact who we were actually ment absolutely shit all to me.... we had moved from north yorks to hartlepool, and my seven year old son, decided that he wanted to go to a "foootball" match, god the only match i had ever been to was sowerby st oswolds temm run by the church which sold out as soon as a houseing developer said how many pieces of silver.....

i digress, so we lost ( i like to say that now), "we" not lost), and i was hooked......story continues as they say....

Mansfield Town (h) First game with the Argentina shirts. Last game of 94/95 Won 3-2. Can remember it as if it was yesterday. can even remember every goal and when they were scored, Halliday 45,46 and 90. Onoura and Ireland for them. Their fans were in the town end i think and did a pitch invasion when they equalised late on, only for us to go up the other end and bag a winner. Think they had to draw to get in the play-offs! Was hooked but never go back again until a 1-0 league cup win against Scarbrough which went to penalties. Remember Russ Tiffin getting the hammering of a lifetime!!

I remember that game for different reasons, I was at home washing the car, and listening to the match on the car radio. Couldn't afford to go, with three younguns, and deciding it wouldn't be much of a match anyway, regretting it as each Halliday goal went in.

I don't remember my first match, due to 1963 being a long time ago, and also being a 9 year old I also spent a lot of time running around and not actually watching the match.

PC's first match though was the first one after Dave Wiggett's death. At home to Barnsley, March 24th 1978, one of our first 'dates', I can still feel the emotion of the minutes silence to this day. The next match the following day at Feethams is the reason I still hate the Loids.

Our oldest's first match was a 2-2 draw against Torquay, followed the following Tuesday by the first League Cup match against Arsenal. A Pools sending off in each match. He remembers that Sean McAuley went in goal, after Horne's sending off, I thought it was Shane Reddish, so much for memory.

Looking at the fixtures on 'In The Mad Crowd', I'm wondering now why I didn't take him to see the home match against Darlo just 3 days before the Torquay match?

August 13th, 1994 - we played Gillingham away at the Priestfield - drew 0-0, before the old ground and the Gills' old Main Stand had been knocked down for redevelopment. Family came from far and wide to go and watch the match with us, even my uncle from New Zealand who was born in Hartlepool came down to watch the game.

As a young boy at that time, I was sat on Dad's lap watching the game.

I don't seem to remember much about the game in itswelf, but if this is the right game, apparantly we had Keith Oliver sent off and Nicky Southall was upfront with Brian Honour.

I can't remember whether it was this Gillingham away game or another one where Mr TPP was the mascot alongside Brian Honour for the day, or that could be the away game in April 1996 when we lost 2-0.

I went to a few games in the very early nineties but I was too young to really get into it. The one that made me a Pools fan was this match right here, which saw us go 1-0 up only to get absolutely bummed.

Still, thrilling game - was sat in the Mill House for probably the only time ever. Ive stood in the Mill House twice since; the rest has always been the Town End.

I remember when the Town End was good.

I met Ralph Wright just after our last home game of that season, I think 70/71 when he scored with an overhead kick in our 3-0 win over Workington I think.

My brother used to work at the Town Hall garage and Ralph Wright took his car there to get fixed. My brother mentioned I supported pools and he drove to my parents house to meet me. I was actually speachless, it doesn't happen often believe me. I think I got his autograph but where that went who knows. Top bloke Ralph Wright. Some of todays so called stars could learn a thing or two from him.

My parents always used to call him "Rarf", that used to drive me crackers

All the cakes are spoken for Mr Bus. They're for a poorly gentleman currently in hospital.

Boxing day 94. Lost 5-1 at home to Carlisle. Our football club was given about 100 tickets from Pools for the game.
