Why did they not allow people to know their names or show mugshots? They'll live under pseudonyms either way. Can anyone shed light on this?

As they couldn't be sure who actually killed him, they charged everyone with the offence of killing/allowing to be killed - it was a new offence created to deal with situations where parents killed their child and both blamed the other one. As it's not murder, it has a lower maximum penalty.
