Was watching the video by the Boomtowns just now and remembered the song was written about a girl who went to school with a gun and shot classmates and teachers? I hope I aint imagining that.

Anyway what was the reaction to this? Its not often you hear about songs being written about tragedies like this, was there uproar or not an eyelid battered?

Pretty good write up about the song, and the tragedy, and how it went down at the time.

Don't know about anybody else but I find the Boomtown Rats almost unlistenable nowadays..they haven't matured well at all.

Compare this to say Blondie or Ian Dury from the same era (they had major hits in '79 yet were "New Wave" style acts without being pure geniuses like Costello or Squeeze) and you get what I mean?

The other band that I can't really listen to today is The Skids. I could happilly sit through hours of Buzzcocks/Magazine/Ruts etc but again Richard Jobson's Scottish outfit just don't cut it. I could understand this if they were a comedy band like Sham 69 or The Dickies, but The Skids were very serious and earnest chaps.

Strange!

The stanglers have not aged that well either but they still sound good. The Damned have aged well, probably because they are bit more difficult to categorise

I don't like Mondays is probably the one song I do that brings the house down every single time. A proper morale booster - so I save it till the audience's attention is wandering a bit then rope them back in with it.
