Hi fellas.

I was speaking to a guy called Bill Hamilton earlier who used to work for the BBC in the north east and for newspapers and the like.

He is currently putting a sort of autobiography together and he is doing a chapter called 'life at the bottom' and yeah, you've guessed it, it features a lot about pools. Its focusing on the 50s and 60s eras, relelection and all that. Bill had dealings with Hartlepools United at this time.

In particular he is wanting information on Ernest Ord who was entrepreneurial chairman for a while who apparently devised some system of selling vouchers which people could apparently use locally to get goods from shops.

Bill would love to hear from anyone who was around during this era and could provide him with any info re Ernest.

I have managed to provide him with a little bit of info as my grandad was club secretary at the time, but he passed away years ago.

If anyone has any tales to tell Bill would love to hear from you. I have his phone number and email address. Please let me know if you can help and i will forward contact details.

Cheers

My grandad was called Ernest Smart. Ernest must have been a common name back then!

You could hear the horsefeet pound as they raced across the ground. And the clatter of the wheels as they spun round and round. As he galloped into Market Street, his badge upon his chest...............
