It just goes to show you how much the World has changed: Norway, for so long a Eurovision joke, have now won for the first time in 14 years !!!! They've entered some good songs in the past and I'm not surprised they've won by a absolute landslide tonight.

I'm so glad the planned chelsea sabotage didn't take place, that would have ruined the contest and tarnished the good name of chelsea football club fc england uk.

Let me tell you how good this result was tonight: it is our best result since 2002 when we came 3rd, we scored 173 points and the only time we have scored more points then that is when we won it last in 1997.

Who cares that we didn't win, this is a historic night - the Eurovision Song Contest came back!!!

Will tonight be the first night you officially "crack one off" for the first time in your life? it sounds it.

Go on son, wack away.

From what I could see of the 15 minutes or so I watched last night, it was a no contest. With the winner getting twice as many points as any other. I heard the song at the end, and if that was clearly the best one, then thank f**k I didn't hear any more. I've already forgotten what it sounded like!

The winning song's growing on me - I think the bnest one out of the Top 5 was Turkey to be honest, I thought think when we first sent Jade to Moscow that the song was like an X Factor's winning song too much.

It proved to be hugely popular over Europe and I'm really glad Jade got the result that she deserved. There was one awkward moment where I thought I saw her bump into one of the bows of the violinists, but she didn't let mistakes like that scare her, and she gave the best UK performance probably this decade.

I hope that she won't find too difficult to establish herself as a performer.

As songs I like Iceland, Greece (either bad sound in the arena or a bad performance), Malta, Estonia, Denmark (written by Ronan Keating, sounded like him as well), Romania and us. I was in two minds whether to vote for Malta or Denmark but I voted for Denmark in the end, it seems it didn't get the support last night.

I think Sweden will disappointed with their result, but I didn't like the combination of pop and opera and the singer wasn't the strongest performer.

What also makes it interesting is that May 17th is Constitution Day in Norway, a national day - which will be made all the more happier for the country after last night's win.

Well let's be honest there's a little thing called national pride at stake - we know that we should be doing better than the results we have before last night, especially when we have one of the largest music industries in the world, let alone Europe. So the BBC made changes in order to show to us that they are taking it more seriously and should do.

Of course, the best way of taking it seriously is by trying to go all out to win it.

National pride? Its a singing contest ffs! Its all political anyway, the song choices have little to do with the final standings. Do you think, lets say, the Portugese sit at home after the contest and laugh at how bad the UK do year after year? No-one cares

Its not important whatsoever!

And exactly why some people in this country don't care and don't take it seriously that means they've not been having their say by not voting nationally and in the Contest as well.

If we want to win it, I'm afraid wedo have to take it seriously - that's why we got ALW and Dianne Warren in.

But people voting in this country doesnt give us anymore points as we cant vote for ourselves, also no one gives a $hit apart from you and Graham Norton

Well no, that's why we need to watch the Contest, vote for the winner said.

And there are plenty of people who give an S.H.1.T - about 100 million people worldwide - let's face it this competition is not unique, never mind the X Factor or anything like that, this is the one are country wants to be successful in.

Its a big laughing stock and expensive to host so I am glad we never won. It shows how brilliant the contest is when previously a load of blokes dressed in halloween costumes won and Ireland in the 90's intentially put in a rubbish entry into the competition as they could afford to host it again.

Well, Russia's host broadcaster announced before the Contest that it didn't want to win it again and judging from the entry they selected it shows.

You can tell which countries in each year want to win the contest through the seriousness of their entries.

With this in mind, the voting tables for the shows were released on Sunday. The Czech Republic actually received "nul points" for their entry about Romanies and that was awful.

CNN had a report about the contest and said this year's show cost $32.5 million (30 million euros) - It's amazing really where they do manage to find the money especially in at a time of global recession to stage these shows even though us, France, Germany and Spain pay towards it and consequently they qualify automatically for the final. Something that the rest of the EBU must be happy with otherwise we would have had to qualify through the semifinals. Thank God we don't have to do that!

The Ukrainean entrant even mortagaged her house to pay for the set for her performance. That's how seriously you take it - especially when there's the prospect of selling a lot of arena tickets and attracting a lot of tourism into the economy by winning it, which is more important when there's a recession.

The only thing is you've got to understand those halloween costumes were part of the look of their song - made it all the more impressive - that's why they won - they do seem to like rock in Finland, they have sent a couple of rock entries in recent years.

If we couldn't afford not to host it if we won it, then I don't think we would enter - I'm hoping that maybe we can win again in 2011 so thatwe can have the words LONDON 2012 on the posters etc. clappp

I tell you what if we host the Eurovision and the Olympics in the same year, we will be at the centre of the world in 2012. won't we?

I wonder if the BBC have thought about this.

Nah, that was just an episode of Father Ted you're thinking of. bbolt

I tell you what: that was probably the best episode of Father Ted:

And I thought these constant criticisms were new about the Contest before the voting got allegedly worse...but it seems they have been around since the dawn of time:

The video clip is a good indication of this.
