Small balls that were made of some noxious chemical they used to put in clothes in wardrobes years ago to 'discourage' moths.

Apparently they were, or someone made a fortune flogging mothballs that weren't needed.

I think they laid their eggs in the clothes and then the hatchees had the clothes for dinner.
Of course, it's not a problem these days because clothes don't last long enough to see a gestation season out......

I also dont know what 'mothball' is meant to mean....

In this context, it means to take something out of use and keep it in a state of readiness in case it needs to be used at some future date. We used to have a 'mothball fleet' of wasrships in Hartlepool docks, kept in a state of readiness, but with no one on board. Does that explain it to you ....?

So that's how your anagrammatic career began, Snowy? I knew it would be connected somehow with transport.

Transport is brilliant...If I could fly somewhere or travel overland, I'd travel overland, you see and learn so much more (except autobahns overnight)...am I the only person whothinks it's the best part of a holiday?

Evertime I drive past the derelict offices of ICI at Billingham, I realise how the chemical industry has alsp been screwed.

Well, I don't think it's the BEST part, but it is something to make the most of rather than tear-arsing to your destination and being bored silly at the end of two weeks.
