Well, sometimes, the most important thing is to survive and yesterday, we DID do it - just, by the skin of our teeth, with help from Leeds United. The vital knockout blow for Northampton was that they had the worst run-in having to play MKDons and Leeds in their last two games. For us results at Crewe and Yeovil prove vital.

Before the game, I thought that we were reasonably safe because I assumed that we were not going to give away a lot of goals.

I know believe that logic to be slightly misjudged.

The starts to each half yesterday were I think the worst starts to a Hartlepool game that I have certainly seen in the short time I've been supporting the Club.

After seeing the mistake Budtz made for the first goal, I struggle to understand why some people still beleive that he is a better goalkeeper than Lee Barrett. I shall be very interested to see who from the goalkeeping department makes it on to the released list.

I thought we played a lot better after we went 2-1 down and even saw some passing football of the old Hartlepol that we know and love. I thought Nardiello took his goal well.

To be honest, I think the last half an hour of the match turned into nothing short of an end of season kickabout as results elsewhere guaranteed our survival and Bristol Rovers decided they didn't want to torture us any longer and eased the pressure.

I thought that Aaron Lescott (the short, young Rovers player) was very nippy and at times had the ability to turn us inside out.

So we got turned inside out by a "young" 31-year old player who couldn't get his game for Stockport when they were shit in 2004.

He looked quite youngish to me, although we were right down the other end.

The result was disappointing, the overall performace was disappointing but they were both immaterial in the end to me.

We had one objective today: stay up. We did it. Not in the way that we would have liked to have done, but we did it.

As far as I'm concerned, the season is over, our objectives were met. We can consign this League season to history and learn something from it.

Now, we can relax over the summer, wait for the new season, new players, new manager, turn a new page and see what happens.

We did it all right, but not yesterday.
Our objective yesterday was not to get trounced.
We did fook all yesterday, it was the other teams who did it for us.

Anyway, 2008/2009 is hereby dismissed from my memory. This will be my last word on the subject of how useless we have been for the last 10 months.

I think our results against Crewe and Yeovil proved vital in the course of the season, as well as Northamton having a poor run in against two play-off teams.

Certainly I would admit if the season had carried on, we would have been in very severe trouble.

Yes, we'd be in trouble for playing more than 46 league games in a season
