Let's look at the season (which hopefully will end with us in League 1).

It started so well (I'm on about first 2 games) comprehensive victories over Colchester and Scunthorpe, probably give the optimists more hope that maybe we could push for promotion'play offs. And only a fantastic goalkeeping performance from fon Williams stopped us winning our opening 2 home league games. A keeper who was signed this season from Crewe by Stockport, O how we would have loved any sort of performance like that from any the 'keepers who played for us this season. Both them being the first on the released list for me, come next Monday. But even after that defeat we had hope as WBA (league cup) and Peterborough at London Road were beaten, They then went unbeaten at home in the league until February before losing at home in the League again. While our defence started to leak goals quicker than a sieve, in August we conceded 6 goals in 6 games (not to bad) But then conceded 17 in the next 8 almost 2 a game, most fans saw that we needed to strengthen the defence, at the earliset possible moment. Then we had our only decent run with 4 wins on the trot in October, 4 wins that , hopefully keep us in league 1 , including 2 that have almost certainly made that possible, (Brighton at home , Carlisle away), add that to a victory from a very dubious penalty at Swindon in February, and with the 7 points taken from Hereford, Crewe and Yeovil in April, is quite simply the only reason we have an outside chance of going down, any defeat in those games mentioned, would surely have meant relegation in this our centenary season. Yet we still managed to defeat premiership side Stoke and apart from a dubious penalty may have pushed West Ham further than we did.

But just how did we manage to match, and beat premier teams, yet perform so badly in many other games, Yeovil,at home Cheltenham away to name just 2 I can name more but would take me to long.

To many square pegs in round holes for to many games, players not performing, a season where if my memory right( and madjohn can confirm this) we didnt do a double over anyone. And still can't when did that last happen ???.

Blame can be placed on many people for what has been a disappointing season , and that as good a description as can be given. And Im sure most on here will find a reason to blame everyone from IOR down for what has happened.

We all know we need a clear out, of player's (even the football management side of the team). And many will disagree who should go. Should Robson go??? Last season I said yes, this season I thought he had proved me wrong on some of his performances, if he played like that, or even close to it, at a consistent level I would say NO, but his inconstitency, which borders at times on abysmal I would say YES. Foley well my opinion not changed, he wont make it at this level, he has to go. Mackay if he does it on instinct, he will score goals, but when he has to put his brain and feet on the same level they dont work together, another to go. 'keepers, bye to both, sorry not good enough, if have to pick one to be understudy to whoever we bring in as No.1 then Budtz. McCunnie rated him at start last season, after injury the jury was out, and cant seem to force his way into a bad defence, with once more players being played out of position over him, so think he on way.

Players who are out of contract, well thats another thing, some I would try to resign some I wouldnt.

One bright spark for next season will hopefully be a fully fit James Brown for the whole season, missed so badly, it appears , on the season as a whole we were possibly a one man team, another player missed, and who I think we may have seen play his last game for Pools' more to injury than anything else is Willie Boland, once more a player who I thought should have been released last season, but looked right up for it at the start of this, and missed more than most thought he would be.

Players, like Liddle really need to find the form we saw of him when he arrived, sadly way below that this season. Clark we all know what a good player he is, had good games, in my opinion in midfield, but the best defender at the club and has to be put back in the defence next season.

Other's have had many discussions on here, Humphreys, possibly a player for the bench, can fill in a number of positions coming off it, not a defender but always gives his all. Jones well I rate him and played in his best position of centre midfield worth keeping. Sweeney at the moment our only box to box player, has to be kept and I believe he under contract.

Power, impressed me in pre season tournament, but can't force his way into a poor first team, seems to say a lot.

And whoever in charge next season get Rowell in the team, this lad will make it, well that my opinion. Lange not seen enough of him, due to injury but his career speaks volumes so get him signed along with Nardiello, who was outstanding at Yeovil and didnt look like a loan player but a player who wanted to get a win for the shirt he was wearing.

Now , let's just hope this season doesnt turn to complete rat s*** and all the results that can occur meaning we go down on Saturday, dont, and lets build , for next season, Im not asking for promotion/play off's but some sort of season with hope, and performances worth watching, of which we've had to few this season.
