This if you accept calling it an away game. It was a 1000 mile trip for me at any rate.

Either the 0-0 draw at Cambridge in 2002 when we should have beaten them or this year's MK Dons match when we lost 3-1 - either way any game when I've thought "How on earth did we lose that ?" - also when we lost 2-0 to Orient this season when we running them ragged.

Agreeing on the Hull and Mansfield games!

The Hull game probably shades it for me, pishing down with rain and no roof on the stand. Remember thinking what a $hithole Hull was, only to go to uni there a few years later...

Was that the mansfield game were there was loads of bees in the away end, a pools fan fell in the water at the pub near the ground, we nearly went into that ukranian social club and their mascot the stag was throwing sweets into the croud only for us to catch them and throw them back.

20th Feb 1978.
Wimbledon Away 3-0.
Gate 1-400.

The whole day was a shambles the bus driver for some reason would not take us to Wimbledon so we got dropped off at Westminster Bridge.
We were chased by Chelsea fans around the tube system and when we got to Plough Lane the pubs were shut around the ground.
The police held us back after a 3-0 paggering saying the bus would pick us up 1 hour later the police say you can get the tube now the Chelsea fans have cleared from Earls court.
Stopped just outside Nottingham for a drink and the locals kick off and our driver nashed and left us the police chased up the motorway and made him come back and we were escorted all the way back to Hartlepool Police station pure nightmare.

Bresslaw nearly got locked up at that one. Lots of infighting amongst the Poolies present.

For me would have to be brighton away 97, warm day, lots of tv from around the county cause of the fear of brighton going out of the league, and basically we played utter $hite. Still the only game home or away i ever walked out of before the end, Oh and brighton is a crap night out!!!

LOL, what a dreadful Pools team!!!! Surely the infighting cannot have broke out due to some fans arguing that our team was not shiit!?

Even though it was only 1-0 I think that the performance was one of the worst that I have witnessed. I think that Marcus Richardson had been out on loan at Lincoln, was it? and he came back to Pools to be played as a lone striker and he spent most of the game on his arse

Chip, I was also at both games but I don't remember rain at Southend sctatchinghead I just remember the chopped down terrace as they had built the flats behind. Oh and there was more than 8 there, at least 10 or 11

Re the stockport game, I had driven up from Chessington leaving at 2.30pm. Not realising the M6 at Birmingham was not the best place to be on a friday night, I got to the ground just after half-time to find out we were already 3 nil down

I know this is a home game, but strangely I don't think I have ever felt as low watching pools, then after the Bristols Rovers game in 2006/2007 (sorry don't know how to do mad john's link). Having never won a title in our history, will we ever get a better chance sadx

He was young, inexperienced and behind a shit team. His situation was not helped by Pools 'fans' hurling abuse at him throughout the game !!!!

Mr MJ, how come John Cooke played in 2 different positions, and scored from both of them, giving them 7 goals? bbolt

Seen too many bad performances away to name just one,BUT 28/12/1997 always sticks in my mind for the following.

Notts County away lost 2-0.

The day started badly as we waited at the ground for our bus to arrive,it finally came twenty minutes late only to find I had overbooked by one too many.
Luckily there was the drivers escort seat empty and rather telling er-indoors she was not going I sat with the driver.

Set off as it started raining, got to Wolviston and then the moans started.
One of the skylights on the bus was leaking and those at the back were getting a soaking so off to the bus company's depot in Stockton to change buses. I used Delta in those days as they did me some good deals.
Got to the depot and the driver did not have his key to get into the yard a phone call or two later we changed buses, off we go again.

It had been arranged with Rick Hanlon who was the manager at a place called the Larwood & Vose not far from the ground to call in before the game and all enjoy a top notch spread he had put on for us and enjoy his hospitality(Rick now runs the Park).

Checked with the driver on way to see if we were still on time for this and as we had left very early anyway he said we would be fine.

Approaching the City we were stopped by the Police and I told them of our pre arranged visit to the boozer,no probs he said and gave the driver directions. We followed these to the letter only to find we had been directed to the other side of the City and stuck solid in very heavy traffic.

I had already phoned Rick to say we were there and would not be long, three phone calls later he phoned me to say the sarnies had started to curl and we were now pushing it to get there in time.

We never did get to the boozer as we just say made it to the ground for KO,got beat 2-0 never got any scran or drink.

Our police escort got us away and one of the outriders only came off his bike and under the bus, nothing hurt but pride but it just capped off a shit day for me .

Came home not saying a word, went out on the lash and got a right earbash off er-indoors when I eventually went home.

Writing this brought it all back, this was a nightmare day. sadx

Some cup competition game at doncaster early 90's. A three team league thing and all we had to do was score a goal - didn't matter if they scored loads we were through if we scored. The fat b*****d Gibson put about 8 of our players up for sale that day with out telling them.
You guessed it we didn't score or look like it.

I thought when we went down to 10 men in that match we really started to turn it on - the best I've seen Pools play since I got back to blighty.
Still gutted mind!

Yes the first half of the 89/90 season was something else. I was at the Southend game on the Friday, Chessington was there but we didnt know each other at the time. It was actually a warm summers evening and I was surprised at the low turn out of about 15-20. In Feb 91 a mate from work offered to give me a lift to Hereford, we were 4-0 down after 20 mins, and it was brass monkeys cold, I felt so embarrassed, think I gave him about £100 petrol money to ease the pain.We got beat 4-1 in the end. A couple of lads left after the 4th goal to go into Hereford for a few pints, when they got back at 450pm the bus had left them and they had to hitch home, getting back Sunday lunchtime. LEGEND!!!

There was a match mid 90s at Barnet got beat 5-1 which was quite depressing as well.

Mouldy Old Dough!!! The Wimbledon game was 5-0 the one you refer to was the season before(night match).

This one for me

http://www.inthemadcrowd.co.uk/cgi-bin/itmc_view_match.asp?oid=3656

Mainly due to the fact it pissed it down and I thought I was going to die from Oldmonia for a while after!

We got dicked off the Arse (oo-er) a few days later as well, although Dennis Birdcack never managed to score against us

This one is up there as well

Probably doesn't compare to some of the dross seen by the older supporters but this is definitely the worst I've been to.
Got there 5 minutes before kick off after driving down on my own as a 'spur the moment' decision. Ground was shocking. Performance was shocking. Traffic on the way home was shocking.
Possibly the worst decision of my life.

This for me, a freezing pissy wet day and we got tonked by a non league outfit, who were quite simply a miles stronger team than us and they were two divisions below.

Seasons like that one put our current 'problems' into perspective somewhat.

The 4-0 Hull game which a couple have mentioned also takes some beating, as it was a relegation six pointer and Hull should have been way more than 4-0 up at half time, our party naively wandered into the Silver Cod for a quiet pre match pint as well

This for me, a freezing pissy wet day and we got tonked by a non league outfit, who were quite simply a miles stronger team than us and they were two divisions below.

Seasons like that one put our current 'problems' into perspective somewhat.

The 4-0 Hull game which a couple have mentioned also takes some beating, as it was a relegation six pointer and Hull should have been way more than 4-0 up at half time, our party naively wandered into the Silver Cod for a quiet pre match pint as well

if memory serves me right, Macc were at least 3 divisions below us at that time - Unibond League. Might even have been 1st division and not premier Unibond as well.....they weren't as high as the Conference, definitely not. We were in the division we're in now

They were in the conference, it was Sammy McIlroy's first season as manager. I think the season after was when they won the conference but weren't allowed into the league because of the ground (even though Chester had played there when they were homeless!)

It seems to have worked for Neville Southall, George Best, Steve Claridge, George Best, Ian Clark and any other footballers I can think of who could feasibly be tramps.
