Perhaps the player who's expected to win isn't expected to be in town after the end of the season.
Anyway, sod it....was already going to miss the first half because of having to be somewhere else at between 2 and 3pm; now this an'all

Yeah, but the people who will nash off if we lose are also the people who won't turn up early to watch the presentation.

Good idea, Pierrepoint, pop down and mention it at the Club.

Surely even the miserable damned bounders in the millhouse stand would hang around to clap Joel off in his last game on Home soil..

Or maybe they won't.. sadx

i think this is a brilliant idea, and much better than an awards night after a thoroughly depressing season.

All of the fans get show their appreciation for the winner, rather than the few.

And lets face it, what the fook would an awards night be celebrating? bbolt

I would love to think pools did this for the right reason, but I cant help thinking the motive will be something much less sensible. Its Pools innit?

I think they have done this to give Joel POTY on home soil to try and make it a sweetner for him to open contract talks. I could be wrong like.

But with this being pools, it wouldnt surprise me if Joel never got POTY, and then Pools would once again have red faces.

I havent voted for him, I have cast my vote to someone else

but thats what he is paid to do score goals. By all means without him we would have been fcuked.

But on the same token Sweeney has been played out of position and never failed us. He has put 150% in to every game. therefore i feel Sweeney will get my vote.

If Joel had signed an extension and would be here next year would you feel the same?

I presume this has already been in the Fail, or will be in tonight, because if it's not how many votes are they going to get from a one page article on the website? it's hardly representative of the people who follow Pools week in week out. I know from my five season ticket holders, they're will only be me who's voted, the others don't use the clubs website, or the internet much at all.

I've voted Joel, he's goals alone this season make him the front runner, but I also think he's continued to put in a good level of effort and has played on with injuries, even though he's signed sealed and due to be delivered back to Oz. I think it will be a nice thank you to our Wizard of Oz.

When I phoned up earlier on for my ticket, I got asked to give my vote and was told that the votes were unanimous for Joel up to that point in the morning.

IIRC, Player of the Year in those seasons: Porter, Haigh and Honour

It seems that strikers who get more then 20 goals are the equivalent of a ginger stepson

Paul Haigh did indeed win. I won a competition to present him with the award on the pitch before a match and then to watch the game from the palace of luxury that was the director's shed.

I have never rated Joel as highly as most - he has been too often injured and has not scored enough goals. I have express this on here occasionally and been lambasted for holding that view. However that was before this season. This season we have seen consistant excellence rather than joyous flashes.

Twenty goals in a dreadful season!

Really, honestly it is not possible to vote for any other candidate for reasons other than attention-seeking willfulness.
