Always wanted to go as a kid but I never got any further than Seaton.

The comparison to my daughter is staggering. She's 11 and has been to just about every country in Western Europe along with the Caribbean, Egypt, Lapland, US and god knows where else.

Most of us were born into poverty or near poverty or at the very least, I bet no one on this board had a family who was always flush.

Nuns on bikes...
That's what my memory of Butlins is.
My mam and step-dad went out for a drink and left me and my sister in the chalet thing on our own.
We were pretty young. I'm sure it would be considered illegal or something now.
I remember jumping up and down on our beds non-stop until we saw the nuns coming on their bikes. They put their heads to the window to see we were sleeping peacefully.
We laid down, pretended we were happy in the land of nod then as soon as they went we jumped up and down on our beds til the next nuns came (or the same ones on the next leg).
Does anyone else remember nuns on bikes or have I just taken too many drugs?

As a kid up until the age of 11 I went on 1 holiday - a week in Scarborough

After that we went away every year - to one or other of my two brothers who lived away. Apart from one school trip to France, I didn't go abroad until I was about 25

My kids have been to - Cyprus, Spain, Malta, France, Corfu and the USA no less than 3 times - they REALLY don't realise how lucky they are!

I agree with the comment Mr I made about most of us being born into poverty or near poverty. My Dad worked so many hours to make ends meet that when I was young I could go as long as a month without seeing him at all! A sunday roast would feed us for 3 days - Sunday lunch, rissoles on Monday & soup on Tuesday - & yet the only memories I have of being a kid is being happy - odd isn't it?

I took a 10 man stag party to Butlins in 2004. It was the only place I could think of with a bar that also had a fence round it. We paid £60 each and it was big success.
