Post subject: Are we too nice?

Having seen the disgusting conduct of the Huddersfield players last night in getting a fellow professional sent off it took my mind back to the Carlton Cole incident in the West Ham game. ALB lost his rag as he'd just had studs in the chest from Cole, I didn't have a particular problem with Coles challenge but he was nowhere near the ball. However I didn't see a single Pools player approach the referee or Carlton Cole just ALB who'd been offended against. I didn't see Nelson trying to drag Cole to his feet, what I did see is Humphreys keeping everybody out of trouble including Cole who he had hold of.

Have we got too honest a set of lads or are we comfortable with a group of lads who can always hold their head up high in the way they approach games? I'm happy for us to take the moral high ground but it's not getting us anywhere is it? We get the square route of fuck all from officials especially lately.

Time to get nasty?

What about when the penalty was given - all of our players just seemed immediately resigned to it, no protestation whatsoever. I think we are just so used to getting nothing from officials we don't even bother protesting anymore...

Nelson said "Well he wasn't going to change his mind was he".

Which is correct of course, our players don't behave like thick footballers enough for my liking!

Peter Drury even said on the commentary what a good set of lads they are, we need to sign some doyles.

I've said this for some time PJ. We are too nice and teams and officials take advantage of it.

one thing about this group of lads - Sweeney, Porter, Nelson, Clark, Liddle, Jones, Brown, Robson, Humphreys, Monkhouse and apologies for any others I've missed - and crucially, Chris Turner, is that Hartlepool is not just another team to these lads after last night's match. A lot of them would bleed blue and white, and that counts for a lot when you're a small club like Hartlepool in a league with clubs who have big grounds and big support - and all the biased officials that goes with it.
People like Dimi, Barron, Eifion,Tinkler and plenty others who have left - these lads pulled their puds out for Pools and all would do the same again if they could.
That is why re-signing people like Boyd and Dimi would be the best thing to do for HUFC, not signing people like Kyle who would never give two f-ucks about Hartlepool United in a million years.
There's a lot to be said for team spirit, it will get you 15 points a season on its own, an that's a good start.

I was proud of that fighting spirit last night, and the players should be proud too. We can go about our business in a determined manner and still get the result like we did yesterday, without resorting to the despicable tactics employed by Huddersfield Town.
Theirs is one group of players I would be embarrassed to associate myself with, and the complete opposite of how I felt about Pools last night.

BTW, has any on noticed how that little weasel Wilson has managed to get a four page spread in the months 442 Magazine (I didn't buy it, just happened on the article!)

If anyone had any doubts about Wilson using us as a place to rest whilst he waited for a 'bigger' club, this shows his true colours

What's he got to say for himself?

Does he admit to being a dognoncer and own up about the ferrets in the pipes?

I just skimmed through it really, no dognoncing confessions I'm afraid

He said he wasn't one for confrontation and his biggest hate is bad timekeeping....

It 'bigged' Swindle up, DW thinks he has landed on his feet there and will go up and up with them, just like at Bristol City........

Getting back on track with this thread, the attributes shown in such circumstances by our players is normally called discipline and self control. This to me is something that we should be proud of and proves we're something special, better than the vast majority of the rest if you like!

All the same I can understand why some of you want them to be argumentative confised

I am proud of it, but where is it getting us in terms of decisions?

When was the last time something went our way?

Don't get me wrong, I know where you're coming from and you're probably better qualified than me to comment (and be frustrated by it) seeing as I can't get to so many games.

All I can say is that we're supposed to show the officials more respect these days and HUFC are doing what they're asked, so shouldn't they show HUFC more respect and not cave into the argumentative gits?

On a similar sort of line, whatever happened to that law whereby a free kick could be moved forward 10 yards to penalise dissent etc? Thats the sort of thing we need to back up this respect campaign etc.

a few games this season if any of our players have gone in for a tackle it's a free kick to the opposition, whilst they can kick the shit out of us,one lad i stood near one match timed it and it was twenty minutes before we got a free kick rage
