I was talking to (I think 'leethepoolie' sctatchinghead ) after the match yesterday and he and his mates were getting a coach back to Victoria at 10pm, to then get a connection up to Durham at 11.30pm. The coach was due in at 6.30am

Firstly, a huge clappp clappp clappp for fantastic support, particularly as we had all just been mugged by Brighton, but I was wondering what other long journeys people had made to watch pools. I guess my longest trip was Carlisle, 340 miles each way. Set off at 6am and was back home 11ish. This was back in the late 80's.

I remember going to Exeter for a tuesday night game and then on the Saturday going down to Torquay, any one of those journeys is bad enough but to do both in the same week was awful.

I bet someone went to the youth team competition in Dallas. That makes a sprint down to Exeter look like a walk in the park.

Well all my journeys are long ones! 30 mile north of Aberdeen is home so a 600 mile round trip for home games. I manage on average 1 home game a month but have been 3 times lately, Crewe, Stoke and West Ham.

From here I have been to Cardiff, Luton, Leeds, Sheff Wed.......

No wonder my Astra was a 100,000 mile wreck!

I did stockport on a friday night in the 80's when we were really, really bad. Left work for my 'dentist appointment'......at 3pm and was stuck on the M6 in Birmingham for hours finally getting to Stockport at half time when we were already 3 nil down rage We lost the game 6 nil.

Now, if my memory serves me right, Mr Parmo was at that game in what was then his customary leathers and wig

[color=#000080]One of my earliest memories of Pools is Mr.Parmo!!!!

I reckon that should be the title of a thread Mutters, Poolie legendary fans.

One of my earliest memories was the engies lad, Mark I think sctatchinghead He was at the match yesterday. Anyway, the first away game I had planned was 84/85 ish and we were due to play at Northampton the year they won Div 4.

He advertised a coach had spaces and being half-term, I took my deposit to his house. He opened the door and was all black and blue, with 2 black eyes. I had nightmares all week as I thought I was on some hoolie bus. The game was eventually called off and thank fook for that I thought as I really didn't want to go :uhoh: . He scared the shit out of me

I only know him to say hello to but it just goes to prove, never 'judge a book by it's cover.

Mark's a great lad, brought all his kids up single handed and they're all good lads as well

Funny, the first time I met 'Ronaldo' was the first game at Glandford Park. The 1 nil win.

He was black and blue that day also, tripped over on the way to the ground apparently

ive done plymouth a few times which obviously is as long as it gets.

went with the supporters association one year when it was a saturday 12 o clock kick off cos england were playing at 3.

i think we set off about midnight and got there about 9.

I was at that one too Mr Fireball, a couple of my mates were on the bus from the Corner Flag if that is the one you were on. I was working down there at the time and had helped Mrs McS sort a few hotels for the coach party.

I used to travel up every Saturday home game while working there for about a year if we're talking long journeys, although I didn't manage to get to the midweek matches.

I'm a lightweight me, Cardiff probably being the furthest.
But the longest trips home in terms of depression were the Cheltenham and Bristol play-off games, felt like years those journeys

A 4 hour flight from Puerto Rico in the Caribbean to Chicago. A 9 hour wait in O'Hare airport followed by a 9 hour flight to Manchester. A train to Bolton to see us scrape a draw in the League cup, about 1998ish Luckily managed to scrounge a lift home, suitcases and all.

You did imply it though in much the same way as Tax implied Train spotters are sex offenders and at no time did he use the word paeodophile. Not all sex offenders are paeodophiles, they just the worst of a bunch of scum. It was a funny one liner though. With the macs and other attire they were wearing they could have been what he said.

I have done almost the same thing, a flight from BVI in the Caribbean via Dominica to Miami, Miami to Heathrow train from Kings Cross to Hartlepool but overslept and woke up in Newcastle, taxi to Pools to see us play and beat Datlo 2 - 1 in the early 80's.

Trainspotters....'obsessives who take their hobby to extremes, travelling great distances and standing in atrocious weather conditions to observe their mundane hobby and hoping to justify it by getting a result of a number they haven't got'.......... a bit like going to away matches really.
