Does the Mail actually do any proper sports journalism any more? A lot of their transfer stories seem to have been aired on messagboards first.

To be fair a lot of transfer speculation that ends up in newspapers emanates from message boards, times have changed in that respect. At the end of the day just because someone works for a newspaper it's doesn't mean they know what's going on as much as the next man and they have to fill the sports pages someone. This is why it frustrates me when people take what's in the local rag as gospel (the Porter stuff being a prime example).

ahhh i never read the mail sport when it decides to run a story about a transfer, they are never true, or are twenty years too late!!

on another different note, im always left confused and a little bemused by our lack of using our local premiershite teams in regards to loaning future talented players. ive just been talkin about it to a mate of mine and the players that came through the ranks at the toon alone wud have been great if we cud have had some of them on loan, the likes of Steven Taylor, Peter Ramage, David Edgar, Paul Huntington, Andy Carroll, and more lately lua lua's brother looks to have something that we could desperately use!!!

so why do we never use them to our advantage??

Steve Harper apparently commented on this - the players themselves won't come to Pools cos they see us as an unglamorous club, and they believe it would look bad for their CV.
So fu-ck the little bastards

ahh fair enough then, thats the reason why, i just thought theyd have wanted the chance to paly proper first team football, and show they can cut it. i kno if it was me id love the chance to go out on loan and help the local lower league team until i was deemed ready to play for the first team.

He is 17/2 to be first scorer on Saturday. That seems like very generous odds for one our strikers in a game where there is nothing between the two teams.

Hopefully, the "won't go to unfashionable Hartlepool" tag of players is /will start to diminish as they realise we are less likely to go bust than other flash clubs and they will be payed. We also have a top training ground set up, reserve set up, fitness and physio team etc rather than all or nothing first team sod the rest mentality.
