I was reading a newspaper similar to this, Metro, on the train and I couldn't believe it when I saw a report about this schoolboy that had been sentenced to 4 years youth custody at Maidstone Crown Court for beating up a Grammar School pupil during an "arranged fight".

The lad that was put in a coma after this fight, went to Rainham Mark Grammar School...my old school.

The lad who had got sent down was from The Howard School literally across the main road from the our school, where this poor lad attended.

There's been a so-called "rivalry" between our two schools for years, certainly when I was there. Howard pupils were always coming on to our school field and would try to cause havoc.

Apparantly from what I know there was a legend that a football team from the Howard had gone unbeaten for a long time. That was until, a team from our school played them and won. Ever since, they've had a grudge against us for beaten them and now they try to cause trouble whereever and whenever. There is a history of fights being arranged between pupils from our school and their school.

If only something could have been done about this rivalry? It is possible for us RMGS pupils to make friends with Howard pupils - I had a friend who was in the same French class as me. It should be that simple.

As I said, our school isn't normally violent, it was the Howard's pupils normally that start it.
