Years ago it may have been against FA rules. But taking into account that they are playing in a cup competition, then any team they field wont affect any other team except themselves, if they are knocked out the only team to benefit is Man U.

Now if he had said he was fielding his weakest team in a league match and they werent in danger of relegation but their opponents were I would have expected the FA to respond in some way as that may have affected other teams, if the club they were playing won and survived relegation. Problem nowadays is that all any team would say is he's a squad member and we felt he desreved an opportunity.
